As public searches for ‘trusted’ news they avoid the Scottish press

Once more featuring John McLennan, but not mentioning, of course, that he is a Tory Councillor and former Tory advisor, the newspaper industry reveals the shiniest of brass necks.

It seems the SNP Government is not offering financial support to those newspapers which have daily lied and distorted the facts in a failed effort to undermine them.

You have to not admire their nerve.

Trusted? Opinion poll after poll, year after year, for decades, put journalists at the bottom as easily the least trusted people there are. We’re no daft nor have we ever been daft just because we bought newspapers when there was nothing else.

State and corporate media have no future as the ‘awoke’, young and old, flood social media with a tsunami of ideas which, crucially, they own. I know there’s a lot of crap but it’s our crap and we have noses don’t we?

    Great scribbling, John.
McLennan and Gourtsoyannis wouldn’t have got the spelling right never mind crafted it.

  2. In years gone by when John McLennan was editor of the Scotsman I always thought he was a fairly decent chap. He published many of my pro-Independence letters and I once had an exchange of emails with him which portrayed him as fair minded. This stunt has diminished him in my view. If the UK Government is providing financial aid to newspapers (in England & Wales I take it) then they are using taxpayers money. Mr McLennan should be asked why this is not extended to Scottish newspapers (Ugh) and if not he should explain why not!

  3. TBH I’d be very angry if the Scottish government was to offer these anti-Scottish rags any financial support. These so-called journalists gleefully take any opportunity they can to do down Scotland. These rags deserve to fail.

  4. I’ve always been a Luddite when it comes to technology (internet, social media) but seeing how it has given fruit to bloggers and Citizen Journalism that isn’t controlled by some billionaire or the State actually gives me hope for the future! Especially living in a country where the MSM is controlled by a larger aggressive neighbour! It’s great to have access to opinions and thoughts that differ from the imposed norm!

  5. If any sensible person or organisation
Has a mad dog that barks at the moon and foams at the mouth continually snarling and bearing their teeth at you, albeit tethered by the chains of law
Then if you threw it a bone to chew then you would be as mad as the dog
However this is indeed a rare chance to place upon its jaws a MUZZLE simply by doing nothing
Let their rabid supporters unlock the
    Muzzle

  7. So, a Tory wants the state to bail out the ba..oh, I see the conundrum!

He wants the state to control the media? Oh not that either?

    Third time lucky.

This Tory wants the Scottish government to hand over dosh to a failing business model????

Am I the only one feeling desperately sorry for said Tory? He really believes he sees the way forward for the newspapers but please someone, get him to sit down and, gently, have the truth explained to him…

He may not be aware of the Tory view of the world of business. Soul. 😀
