In the New European today:
Sam Gompels, managing director of Gompels HealthCare – a Wiltshire-based PPE distributor – said it was not Public Health England’s (PHE) fault that Scottish health authorities were too slow to establish distribution channels and that the health body had a right to demand the equipment remain within its borders: “The fact is Public Health England got their finger out and organised these distribution channels and are getting pilloried for it because public health Scotland, or whatever the equivalent is, have not necessarily organised the same and that’s probably the nub of it.”
But, of course, it’s not the nub of it and PHE were getting four fingers out on behalf of the 4 health ministers who had previously agreed a UK-wide deal, as the English Department of Health insisted:
‘PHE referred the matter to the Department of Health which issued a statement stressing that it was implementing a “UK-wide” strategy for distributing PPE and denied companies had been instructed to prioritise any country. A UK Department of Health spokesman said: “Our PPE strategy is UK-wide, making sure that frontline workers in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all have the PPE they need to stay protected while taking care of patients.’
Now maybe Gompels misunderstood or he understood only too well, what PHE said to him, and maybe PHE misunderstood or they understood only too well, what Matt Hancock said to them?

Oh , they understand all right , it took them a couple of days to get their story right to make it sound like it was the Scottish government ‘s fault but they got there in the end , England expects and all that ! .

Does Mr Gompels have any known political associations with any party or political campaign? He has been getting a lot of name-checks in the media, recently.
