6th poll puts SNP above 50% at 53% and pro-Indy parties at 56%

From Opinium based on fieldwork on 7th April and a sample of 104, 18+ Scots:

  • Con 27%
  • Lab 15%
  • LD 1%
  • SNP 53%
  • Green 3%

Also of particular interest were the responses to the question of how well Nicola Sturgeon is handling her job as leader of the SNP. Perhaps predictably, 92% of SNP supporters agreed but 54% of Labour supporters and 63% of Lib Dem supporters supporters also did.

Of shocking interest, 61% of the full UK sample (2 005) approved of the Government’s handling of the coronavirus situation so far. With 41% of SNP supporters agreeing, did they think ‘the Government’ meant the Scottish Government?

  1. Doesn’t Wee Wullie plan to leave Holyrood anyway?
Get the band back together (Brown, Davidson and various Peers) and tour the studios shouting ” no shurrendur, no refurendums, no more powers fur the Jocks”!
    No, no, NO SHURRENDUURR!!!

“Where do I sign for my expenses”?

  2. Polls are often poorly worded, they ask questions about “the” government and “the” NHS when there’s more than one.
Crucially, one person’s opinion of each can be polar opposites.
Questions need to be more specific.

  3. BGiven that part – OK maybe only a small part but a part nevertheless – of Labour support will also vote YES, it’s a good starting point so long as we still work at like we are hoping for, rather than expecting a YES majority..
