‘Scotsman Reporter’ unable to report on Scotland presents UK data instead to give you a wee chill

Only 50%!

In the Scotsman last night the above headline and this opening statement by ‘Scotsman Reporter’:

‘The mortality rate of patients admitted to intensive care with a confirmed case of coronavirus is close to 50%, according to an early study of critical care outcomes. The report, by the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre (ICNARC) shows that out of 165 admissions to critical care units, 79 patients have died and 86 were discharged. A further 609 patients were last reported as still being in intensive care.’

Disturbing, but then we read, if we’ve stayed with the story:

‘The study includes data on all confirmed cases of Covid-19 reported to the centre up to midnight on March 26 from 285 critical care units in England, Wales and Northern Ireland taking part in an ICNARC programme.’

There’s more but no mention of Scotland or why Scottish data were not used.

Surely if ‘Scotsman Reporter‘ is based in Scotland, they’d have found the Scottish data?

To be fair, I can’t find it either but then I’m not a reporter in a commercial newspaper with pretensions to be Scottish in some way.

Footnote: ‘Close to 50%’ turns out to be 47.8%. More than half survive?

  1. Here is another interesting distinction between Scotland and English NHS – I am quite shocked by this, NHS staff in England often travel to work in their uniforms because they have no changing facilities! Not the case in Scotland – basic infection control:

BBC is into full-on propaganda mode now aren’t they? I’m not happy, although the radio has been very Nicola Sturgeon – friendly up until now, and still seems so far (except not pointing out contradictions with ukgov).
