Readers will remember that other Herald writer, TG, claiming that the virus would kill Scottish independence. Now with a little help from our page reconstruction assistant, Jamie (14), the Herald can play a balancing part in strengthening the case for independence as I’m sure their editor would have wanted.
Today they announced breathlessly (self-isolate!):
‘Frontline healthcare workers face losing benefits they are entitled to if they take on extra shifts to help fight the coronavirus. The alarming details have emerged after a nurse in Glasgow contacted her MP having been told by HMRC there would not be any exemptions for those currently eligible for the means-tested benefit should they take on extra hours. MP Stewart McDonald has now written to the Chancellor calling for an urgent review of the policy, which appears to contradict the government’s motto that anyone trying to do the right thing amid the Covid—19 pandemic “will not be penalised.”’
‘The coronavirus?’ Good to see some good old Scots – ‘He loves the fitba. I love the politics. My ma loves the knittin.’
Just the one nurse? Oh well, I suppose that will do this time if it’s for the cause.
MP Stewart McDonald? Is that SNP MP Stewart McDonald? Not using the party affiliation to be fair to him, as you would with a Tory or Lib Dem child abuser?
Conclusion? A Scottish Tax Office would have the gumption to make sure this was sorted well before any Herald writer was up.

John I thought you might be interested in this,I think is is a bloody disgrace. My G/Daughter pointed it out to me last night.
