8% of the population but 15% of the social housing

According to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation:

Until recently, a combination of social housing, Housing Benefit and the homelessness safety net has provided protection against poverty. However, on current trends, there is a real danger that the housing system will create poverty and deprivation.

The table above shows the level of house building including social housing, in Scotland since 2008. The contrast with England, 10 times the population, is stark:

Overall, house building is at a lower level with 27 houses built for every 1 000 people in England and 35 built in Scotland but it is in the social housing, built by local authorities and housing associations, that we see the failure to provide homes for the less well off so clearly.

Scotland has built 51 380 such homes while England with ten times the population has built 297 440, less than six times as many.

  1. The Boris Plan.

60% infection—1% death rate, mostly Oldies.

    Fewer houses required—-social care problem–solved!

See the wheezes you can come up with when lying on the beach in Mustique!

      1. Alas, no. I am “beached” in Ochiltree. There is no sand, nor heat, not palm trees.
There is no “girl from Ipanema”—more likely to be Senga from Auchinleck (where I was born).

But I dream of the day………………………
