In one day three Welsh hospitals with serious threats to patient safety but no word of the Tory minister

Three reports published together on one day in the BBC Wales website. Toxic food supplies, life-threatening delays and the closure of an A&E are headlined.

In these extended reports there is not one mention of the Tory minister for whom the buck would stop, were they in Scotland and not one accusation of betrayal of the people, from a Labour opposition politician.

In Scotland, every death, of a child especially, regardless of whether the heath board can even be reasonably charged with clinical negligence, is laid with background trumpets, at the door of the Health Secretary or the First Minister.

This is a now long-recurring theme which you could tire of. I know it’s not the SNP strategy to go for the throat but surely at least a formal complaint must have been sent in at some time in the last year? If so, why haven’t we seen it and the reply?

  1. Fed up with the SNP not going for the throat when the Unionist parties clearly go for theirs at every turn , I know it’s not their strategy but it looks weak to not robustly defend yourself! .

    1. I know how you feel John. It’s like a ‘poor us’ strategy, ‘take pity on us, we are so hard done by’. Well, we are hard done by, but we are trying to get away from the mindset of whining about Westminster (where the focus is still on the union) and look forward to what we could be doing. The softly softly approach does look weak, and doesn’t give me enough confidence in their ability stand up for our rights, and in particular to be tough negotiators when it comes to becoming independent, and rejoining the EU. (We are fully compliant with EU regulations, and they would be glad to see us join, for a multiple of reasons, so applying for EU membership should not be a begging exercise, it should be a negotiation aiming to get more benefits than are on offer, not just plumping for mediocre or average)(just saying, if you don’t aim for more, you won’t be getting anywhere near it. I enjoy bartering).

But, at the same time we don’t really want a ‘no surrender’ style of politics, and we can’t expect every SNP politician to know everything ready for a comeback in a moment as well – and much of what they do and say is not reported, of course. Its a difficult one to balance, but more robust, and public, responses could be given to these repeated criticisms and could only improve public perception I would think.

      1. To be frank I do at times get frustrated with the fact that there is no backlash from the SNO, but then I look at it another way you have to rise above it and not sink to their level depravity and name calling I look at the facts and what I see is a Scotland that is out performing Westminster in most areas and I know laughing at their pathetic efforts to make Scots turn in each other is pushing them to desperate measures. No he said, she said no turning on the only party that has fought for the people of Scotland, look at decades of labour, conservative and Lib Dem’s all their lies and destructive consequences! Yes the SNP working alongside the rest of the Scottish government have managed for so long to cushion Scotland and the people of Scotland from most of the destruction caused by Westminster in the UK!
The people of Scotland really don’t know how lucky they are to have a first minister so passionate about her country and the people in it instead of the greedy, lying power hungry assholes in Westminster who would walk over you if the price was right!! 2. A Guardian article talks of a crisis in GP practises across the UK – figures show that in a survey of 4022 adults in England, Scotland and Wales 34% had to wait longer than a week for a GP appointment. I can’t find a link to the raw data but would be interested to see if there is a difference between Scotland England and Wales – I suspect there will be a stark difference and can’t believe it will be to show the Scottish NHS doing worse than that in England or Wales.

PS Classic Guardian – having mentioned a survey across 3 nations it then repeatedly talks about the NHS (meaning England)… I guess it must be hard for their journalists to understand the difference between devolved and retained powers.
