Queensferry Crossing reopens but traffic chaos persists….in England

Quick, never mind the typo, the pubic have a rite to no!

24 hours of ‘misery for commuters’ and it’s back open but Dr Jurgen Schadenfreude, our Construction Correspondent, has bad news to report from England.

The Humber Bridge is closed to high-sided vehicles due to high winds of the kind which did not shut the QC 34 times last year.

Cawood Bridge near Selby is close due to flooding of the kind our new flood defences have prevented.

The Old Severn Bridge is still closed after a lorry overturned in high winds of the kind which did not shut the QC 34 times last year.

The A52 Clifton Bridge in Nottingham is closed for no given reason.

Buxton Bridge in Derbyshire is closed for repairs.

Romsey Road Bridge in London has been demolished

The Minister was unavailable for comment but we’ve blocked his car in.

  1. Did everyone see this?

    Check it out yourself.
You have to use google and search for ‘could a windshield keep the new forth bridge open bbc’
    to get the cached original
    https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:BqiNDw8LLyEJ:https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-38598155+&cd=10&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&client=firefox-b-d

if you search without the cache you come to this title
Could a windshield keep the new Forth bridge open? – BBC News
which takes you to to a totally different headline
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-38598155

The old article has disappeared and in the new article there is no mention of David Climie at all nor his quote ‘Transport Scotland project director David Climie told BBC Scotland: “We expect the wind shields to almost entirely eliminate the need for closures during the frequent periods of high winds in the Forth estuary, apart from in exceptional circumstances.’

It looks like the bridge that never closes has been plucked out of thin air unless i have missed it.
Rev. Stu also has some info

Pure state propaganda. But definitely ‘not a conspiracy.’ Just a masochistic club that hates Scotland?

  3. Reporting Scotland just now, 6.30pm, going big on the bridge. Interviewed some people about how they managed yesterday when the bridge was closed. Fine was the answer because they got the bus or train, which had extra carriages to cope with any increase in passengers due to bridge closure. Only problem was getting parking place at train stations.Joined up thinking on part of transport agencies. You could feel the disappointment on the part of the reporter.
