From the BBC yesterday:
Hospitals in England closed more than 1,100 beds in the past week because of the winter vomiting bug norovirus. Data shows higher than average levels of norovirus in November. One of the most common stomach bugs in the UK, it can be spread very easily in the community.
In the 19th paragraph:
Wales and Northern Ireland have also seen an increase in vomiting and diarrhoea or flu-like illnesses over the last few weeks, particularly in schools and care homes.
In the 23rd and last paragraph:
‘In Scotland, there has been no increase in norovirus cases in hospitals so far this winter.’

Hmm are Scottish hospitals cleaner? Should Jeanne Freeman resign?

Hubris. Tempting fate. Given the nature of the Norovirus bug it is only a matter of time before it reaches Scotland.
I had a Norovirus infection once and would not wish it on my worst enemy.
Rather than angling this article as showing Scotland as somehow better than elsewhere in the UK maybe you should change the emphasis to warning people that Norovirus is on it’s way and what they should do if they succumb to it.

Hubris? Moi? I should change? What, the purpose of this activist blog?

Not the blog. I was quite clear in my comment that it was the slant of the article. There are few barriers to Norovirus so it is only a matter of time before it reaches here and it ain’t pleasant.

Come on Legerwood , that’s not like you , have you been over at Wings by any chance , you are usually so positive .I think what John was meaning was it’s a good news story for us so far , we normally get lambasted for everything bad that happens by the media, it’s nice to have a good news story , but don’t worry , the first case in Scotland when and if Norovirus comes will be treated to the usual , ” SNP can’t get anything right , look what they’ve done in our hospitals now ” ! .

And I was making the perfectly reasonable point that the current situation re Norovirus is temporary given the nature of the organism and the existing difference in infection rates vis-a-vis the two health services should not be used to suggest superiority. Much more concrete and substantial evidence of the difference between the two systems is in plentiful supply. This use of the Norovirus situation was a cheap shot.
There are many well researched and referenced articles on this site. This, in my opinion is not one of them.
And may I also point out I have not posted on Wings.

You should see my lip now! Did L mean the BBC article was hubristic? It was the opposite, damning NHS England, Wales and N Ireland and mentioning the Scottish situation only in passing and as an afterthought. Did I miss something?
Potted lip? As you say L it kind of works too. My dad used to eat Potted Hough which caused my lip to curl vomitously.

The ‘meme’ is John’s post with his header but in ‘Technicolor’ (showing my age) and anchored by my near standard END LONDON RULE. It was posted and shared on most Indy facebook sites yesterday. It may be easiest to find it on mine – just scroll a few memes down: https://www.facebook.com/alex.holmes.1804109
