Tory-supporters don’t care what Tory politicians say because they’re nasty too?

His trousers were even on fiyah and he just sat there!

The latest YouGov poll based on fieldwork on 5-6 November has the Tories still strong, 11 points ahead of Labour, and apparently unaffected by their apparently disastrous week:

  • Con 36%
  • Lab 25%
  • DimLeb 17%
  • Brexit 11%

With Rees-Mogg ‘misspeaking’ to reveal his contempt for the dead of Grenfell, Tory MPs laughing at poverty, lying in a rape case and with one candidate even suggesting the poor might be better ‘put down’, you might think they’d be damaged and we’d see a fall in support. The latest YouGov poll was taken in the midst of the media frenzy about the nasty party but it seems to have had no effect. I know it’s only one poll. Are Tory-supporters mostly just as nasty as their politicians and the latter could do worse and still get away with it?

    1. I saw that article too and read it expecting a big ‘but’ somewhere in it but no it was a straightforward report. But then a few days ago we had this

      https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/nov/04/children-young-as-10-waiting-more-than-year-court-cases

England and its imploding justice system. The article was on the front page of the on-line Guardian for most of the day and then was replaced by this grudging piece about the Scottish Parliament raising the age of criminal responsibility to 12 years old.

      https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/nov/04/scotland-stops-treating-under-12s-criminals

While the article castigated Scotland for not doing more, as reports usually do, it fails to mention that in England the age of criminal responsibility is still 10 years old. In fairness it has to be said that there was a Bill going through HoC to raise the age of criminal responsibility to 12 years but it was lost because of the GE.

  2. It’s all about money.
People who vote Tory have things like , a business , property they don’t live in from which they collect rent , they have savings , investments , a good income and a comfortable life , they can always find excuses , reasons why they vote for people with the track record you highlight in your article.

When it comes to money , people do some terrible things and will turn a blind eye to terrible things done by others if they think their own good income and comfortable life will be affected.

An ugly part of human nature .

One thing for sure is that the Tory voters will always be outnumbered by the rest.
The trick is getting the rest to actually vote .
