Factcheck – CalMac at 98% reliability for last 7 days with more than 500 sailings a day and 54 sailings just from Largs to Millport on time yesterday

By Professor John Robertson

In the last seven days, Calmac ran more than 500 sailings every day. Reliability was:

25th Apr 99%
26 99.6
27 93.1
28 99.7
29 97.1
30 99.2
1st May 98.4
Average 98% on time

On 1st May, 4 of the 10 Arran and 4 of the 22 Portavadie to Tarbert sailings were cancelled. That’s all. The other 33 services were at 100%.

On the same day, there were 54 sailings from Largs to Cumbrae (Millport) on a sunny Wednesday for tourists. If there were 4 hour delays for cars, why didn’t some of those just get the bus from the Cumbrae slip to Millport and hire bikes or walk round this tiny island? There’s little room for cars and tourists driving round are mostly lazy sods putting everybody else at risk.

When you look at facts like these and compare with equivalent archipelago ferry systems in Canada (BC Ferries), USA (WSF), England (Isle of Wight) Greece and New Zealand (Cook Straits), CalMac emerges as the most reliable, the safest and the cheapest because most subsidised, yet the most maligned for one simple reason – independence must be undermined with proxy wars against the SNP on the performance of health, education, crime, transport and other public services that can presented as the direct responsibility of the Scottish Government.

  1. I think this should be brought to everyone’s attention. Kerr said an SNP MSP said that the job of the FM was a poisoned challis is this the truth or is Kerr telling a lie the question should be put to every SNP MSP and if that it what he or she thinks they are no longer welcome in the party as for Kerr and the rest they will say and do anything to bad mouth the SNP.

    2. “the job of the FM was a poisoned challis”

I assume that he, Kerr, failed to mention who it is who puts the “poison” in the chalice…..take your pick.

The truth is that, for many years, it has been a Scottish (INO) opposition branch office manager’s misfortune to be always in the position of being the ‘Bridesmaid’ and never the ‘Bride’ in Scottish elections at Holyrood……thus I would say that, as a job, a branch office manager is more likely seen as one that could be defined as one who is, via his job, holding a “poisoned chalice” position…….

The media also puts the “poison” into everything connected to the SNP as a party and as the Scottish government……which Andrew Kerr from the BBC knows only too well….as that, in Scotland, is his and their, BBC’s, main political job……..

Currently they all, opposition and media, are ‘having a field day’ in assuming that they are triumphant in their combined quest to try and bring down the SNP…..alas as per they are ‘over egging the pudding’ which then exposes them to appear to be those who are a tad way way too aggressive and way way too relentless in their task…………which then prompts some voters to question ‘What is this all really about’ ………I think perhaps the fact that both Labour via Anas Sarwar & Jackie Baillie plus the Tories via Dross & Craig Hoy being given a platform to constantly spout #SNPBAD in the media, yet they themselves , are not being similarly scrutinised by that same media on their respective parties and their policies, may to some voters, seem a tad suspect and very impartial as reporting via the media…..as it seems the only reason we, the voters, are expected to vote for either of their parties in Scotland is mainly down to them not being the SNP….which is hardly a basis to make an informed decision on who to vote for …..or why to vote for them…is it.

Currently focus is on a UK GE…..which means that either Labour HQ or Tory HQ will be elected as the next UK government…..so I think voters in Scotland need more information, more scrutiny and obviously more balance in media reporting on what both of these parties will do if elected but also what they have done as parties up to now (wishful thinking)……plus if Brexit as a policy is ignored by the media in this GE campaign then that would be quite telling for voters in Scotland…..because it means , that in not including any real scrutiny upon it in their media coverage in this forthcoming UK GE, well then as a huge policy for the UK, one must assume it must be, as a policy, one that is damaging their UK and thus also could be considered to also be damaging to those political parties who support and endorse it….hence Omerta via the media upon it as a policy…especially in Scotland !

Of course in reality there will be no balance or fairness via the media here or elsewhere in the UK in this up and coming GE…..the media have made it abundantly clear that they are out to get the SNP and in Scotland they are backing Labour as the best option to get the job done…..once and for all……so I guess ‘now is the time’ where we will see whether they , the media, will actually manage to sway the public’s opinion to match their, media’s opinion, on their preferred and supported party as in New New Labour (for now that is as currently the Tories now seemingly a spent political force everywhere in the UK)…….but I assume before voting most people will actually check out what and who they are voting for……as opposed to what the media want them to do…..that is just make ,what they the media hope will be , a protest vote against the SNP !
