Hate crime reports plummet 75% in one week to underwhelm Police Scotland’s staffing resource as anyone with half a brain knew they would

Yes, some of those journalists should be arrested before they hurt themselves!

By Professor John Robertson

In the Telegraph last week:

Hate crime reports in Scotland are on course to outnumber all other offences put together, figures show, as front-line officers warned they “can’t cope” with the surge.

From Police Scotland today:

The number of online hate reports being received by Police Scotland has dropped almost 75% in the second week since the introduction of the Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act 2021 on 1 April 2024.

Management data released by Police Scotland shows there were 1832 online hate reports received between 8 and 14 April, 2024, down from 7152 the previous week.

The vast majority of reports received during this period were anonymous. These were assessed against the new legislation and no further action is being taken. https://www.scotland.police.uk/what-s-happening/news/2024/april/weekly-hate-crime-and-incident-report-1/

  1. hahaha its so funny looking back to the british nationalists last week raging screaming about their freedom of speech rights being affected by the outlawing of hate crime and yet here we are a week later , they all put their hate crime reports in last week in an effort to prove a ban on hate crime would be unworkable and a week later normal life resumes with the hate crime laws in place ready to deal with …….hate crimes. There are so many people who actually do believe that freedom of speech should allow you to say whatever you want to and about other people and i do mean whatever you want.Anything at all.

    1. ” yet here we are a week later , they all put their hate crime reports in last week in an effort to prove a ban on hate crime would be unworkable”

      Indeed…..

Ironic and pathetic…..but par for the course with some who doth protest way too much in respect to their opposition to this bill yet simultanously felt compelled to use it ….to add their submission to PS of incidents that they said constitutes a Hate Crime that then should be checked by PS…..though we all know many of them did it to try and scupper the bill and try to prove a point that, it as a bill, would overwhelm police resources….but reality was that via their submissions their actions only actually wasted the police’s time.

Amazing the lengths some (usual suspects) will go to destroy owt that comes oot o the Scottish parliament…..yet strangely they are so tolerant of all that comes out of WM……..selective opposition and tolerance….yes ?

Think it proves what their real objection (or rather objective is) is……as in the source being anything they can try to associate….link….connect……….to the #SNPBAD file that they are diligently compiling and updating daily…..(while omitting/absolving other parties involvement within the Scottish parliament on any bills that have passed there that they, as serial objectors, object to)…….so that they can continue to campaign for a Pro UK party to govern within Holyrood and also obvs in WM too……indeed whatever benefits the SNP have , as a government, offered and given to the people of Scotland that sees them, as citizens, at an advantage over what the People of England are alas not benefitting from via the Tories seems to matter not a jot…..I suspect that some of these same people want to keep some of these benefits that they get in Scotland via the SNP and would not be open to losing them and being treated the same way as many in England are treated by the government who are in charge there…..as in the Tory UK Govt.

Those who call for the Scottish parliament to be closed may forget that saying ‘Be careful what you wish for…lest it come true’…..then they, and us unfortunately, will see and live life (in the really) #BAD lane….UK style.

  2. June Slater…..look her up on t’internet….she guests on Vine on 5 and GB News.

Always has so much to say about #SNPBAD….does not live in Scotland but has a vast amount of opinions on politics within our country….basically nay especially #SNPBAD

    She tweeted this:

“Anyone from Scotland worried that the new Hate Crime Bill will affect Tourism, property prices or workplaces…or anything else. It’s put me off buying a lodge in Scotland…just wondering about trade like restaurants etc”

So it is a pity then for tourists coming to Scotland to incite hate as June thinks during their holiday that will not be an option….so Scotland’s loss as Tourists who come here to spread hatred will go elsewhere…..that’s a shame.

Plus June sees property prices doing what….falling/rising because anyone considering coming to Scotland (like her) to buy a property and seeking to spread hate will not do that now….that’s a shame.

Plus June thinks workplaces should be an environment where one can be hateful to one’s colleagues….and that this new bill will curtail their behaviour….that’s a shame.

June was going to buy a Lodge here….now she is not….that’s a shame.

Plus June thinks that trade in businesses like say Restaurants will be impacted….so now Restaurants will only be there for people to enjoy a meal & socialise and people who wish to spread hate won’t go there now so that will totally kill the atmosphere in restaurants so everyone, including non hateful people will apparently not go there now….. according to June ….that’s a shame…..

I hope you see the sarcasm via my comment …..because we have witnessed many reactions on the Hate Crime Bill but extreme ones like June’s reaction is what you would call overkill….she could have chosen to make a measured and intelligent comment, via a Tweet , regarding this bill but instead she chose to write a confused mess when really she could have just stuck to her usual behaviour in relation to Scotland and just tweeted #SNPBAD

I’m thinking that Scotland is very lucky June has decided “not to buy a lodge” here….but I am sure that BBC Debate Night may eventually have room for her on their panel…..especially with her political input regarding Scotland being largely only #SNPBAD every time Scotland is mentioned in the media….and I am sure if she is looking for a lodge in Scotland….then there is another Lodge in Scotland that would very much warm to her and all that she says regarding the SNP……

    1. There is also a YouTube channel, run by Ashley Karmanski, aka “That Preston Journalist”

He appears to have failed to be elected as a local Conservative councillor in the Ribble area.

Despite not living in Scotland, he has a lot of criticism for The SNP and Scottish politics.

There are a few YouTube channels like this, it is not just The BBC.

He has made more than one video on the allegations of missing funds of circa £61 million.

i am sure I have heard of this before.

A work colleague has also mentioned this, I am sure that it has been debunked somewhere, can anyone remember where?

      1. John included a video from him on one of his recent posts about ferries. “Preston ” claiming the ferries would never sail. Nice to see that twattish claim proved wrong

      2. There is a huge amount of those, not resident in Scotland, but who feel they are justified and qualified to communicate what they say is factual in regards to what is happening in Scotland.

It is obvious their information is second hand and sourced from a media that is hostile to the Scottish government and also very much hostile to independence for Scotland.

However we also have those ‘home grown’ #SNPBAD contributors to the debate who are often given a platform by the BBC but who also often guests on both GB News and Talk TV.

        One character is Donald Macleod.

Now he has been on Talk TV ‘Plank of the week’ where he did not hold back on his hostile opposition to Nicola Sturgeon, the SNP and too the current FM…..yet he was also a guest on the panel of BBC Debate Night recently where his whole demeanour morphed into one who was far more measured and less ‘ranty’ as that of his alternate personality that he displayed on Talk TV that was very much distinct from the personality he pretended was really him on BBC Debate night.

I also saw the same thing with another character who does not live in Scotland but seems well versed on the hostile media’s version of the SNP and Scotland’s FM’s…..one Esther Krakue who on Talk TV ‘plank of the year’ in 2022 called Nicola Sturgeon a “Witch” and “that Cow”….and who was recently on SKY News paper review and her personality also morphed into an alternate version as one who, as an individual, also appeared to be one whose opinion was far more measured and reasonable when reviewing the papers…..via SKY News.

How many times will the BBC via QT & Debate Night plus SKY News paper review allow those who guest on or are presenters on GB News & Talk TV also then be guests on their various programmes ? These same people are extremely hostile and biased politically on the rogue news channels yet both the BBC & SKY News offers these people a platform……why ?…..we also often see those who present programmes or are regular contributors on GB News/Talk TV on ITV’s Good Morning Britain as guests…..why ? (many of the same ones also guest on Vine on Channel 5)

Why ?…..well I think we all know why…..hence why we have always and still do call out the MSM……it’s a farce and a stitch up……and very much an illusion of balance and fairness when guests on MSM TV and Radio programmes are also seen to be anything but impartial politically when seen and heard on the rogue news channels……and also tis very very very much obvious why their UK is in the state it is in NOW.

    2. I’m also wondering how many ‘comedians’ both established ones and emerging ones, will say that they are not coming to the Edinburgh Festival this year because of this new bill……the same festival that was very much, for many now established comedians, a platform that jump started their careers on TV……

I , as an Edinburgh resident, will be mindful to take note of those who do state they will not come here because of their supposed ‘fear’ of the bill and what they will state will be dire consequences for them should they supposedly breach it and declare it supresses their supposed Freedom of Speech….in that I will choose not to ever buy a ticket to go and see any subsequent shows they do when all of the heat and fake news currently being promoted on this bill…eventually dies down…..or indeed will I ever watch any TV programme they are on…..as once they become political only for partisan reasons they are then not comedians but instead are just more like political commentators on behalf of a specific political party I could never support or vote for….or indeed a UK state I do not want my country to be a part of…..

Perhaps if some of them say they will not come this year then that will make more free space for others who appreciate that it, the Edinburgh Fringe and Festivals, is an Arts festival and not just another political forum to gain an opportunity to rant against the SNP, the Scottish government and too against Scotland leaving the UK….a win win for us the audience I think.

  3. OT but5 I heard something while driving home this afternoon (Tayside Radio, I think) about Scottish unemployment figures diverging from UK figures – to our benefit. I looked on the BBC Jockland website and nothing there. I was shocked, I tell you, shocked 😉

    1. Given the the London narrative is per C4 ” Unemployment is up; employment is down. The UK jobs market is not in great shape according to the latest official figures “, the BBC’s usual ignoring of positives for Scotland will be hardened when it comes to divergence from the official “UK” line….
