From BBC Cambridgeshire today: An ambulance service is using hire cars to respond to calls amid claims of a maintenance “crisis” within its fleet, it has emerged. The East of England Ambulance Trust (EEAST) has leased 15 vehicles to help during the busiest time of the year. In the Herald today: Alarms have been raised that Police Scotland’s special constabulary is heading for “extinction” as new figures revealed there are almost 1,000 fewer officers on the beat than a decade ago. Data provided to the Scottish LibDems shows 409 special constables were in the force in 2022-23, compared to 1,394 in 2013-14 – a fall of 985. 1.6% of Scotland’s addresses ‘too dangerous’ for ambulances without police escort, maybe

..too dangerous for ambulance crews to attend without police back-up…the Scottish Police Federation (trade union) is warning that budget constraints mean it will be physically impossible to respond to every call for assistance.
