MI5, CIA, SNP and the GRA – Have I watched Homeland and the Diplomat too often?

Professor John Robertson OBA The Express today has: Nicola Sturgeon was CIA agent who stoked gender wars to foil Scexit, claims top nationalist – Former diplomat Craig Murray suggests that American spooks used USAID funding to split the SNP, adding that the former First Minister was likely ‘bribed, indoctrinated and blackmailed’ https://www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/politics/nicola-sturgeon-cia-agent-who-34647121 Mad, eh? Who would believe any of that? I’m saying nothing….well nothing much but I have worried and written at times of a more subtle form of CIA presence – a form of cultural imperialism which manifests itself in ‘Atlanticism‘ – a tendency to admire US politics, especially … Continue reading MI5, CIA, SNP and the GRA – Have I watched Homeland and the Diplomat too often?

If the Scottish Greens decide to become a Thorn in the SNP’s side then it will not end well for them

By NMRN End of the SNP agreement with the Scottish Green party…. Cue Mr Harvie & Ms Slater …..when chased down by the media for their reactions. Mr Harvie was asked “whether the Scottish Greens would be as co-operative with the government over things like the budget, he replied: “Do you think the current government will still be in place for the next budget?”…. Ms Slater “described the ending of the Bute House agreement as an “act of political cowardice by the SNP” and accused the party of “selling out future generations”. The media’s reaction….glee.…the SNP voters reaction could be upon hearing both … Continue reading If the Scottish Greens decide to become a Thorn in the SNP’s side then it will not end well for them

Deaths on A9 plummet to disappoint Murdo Fraser and Scotland’s roads revealed to be safest in UK

By Professor John Robertson In December 2023, Douglas Ross accused the SNP of showing contempt for communities ‘reliant on the A9.’ Conservative Home wrote: In a recent debate at Holyrood on the £3 billion dualling programme, Murdo expressed frustration that, with the exception of Fergus Ewing, there were no SNP MSPs from the areas that are impacted who voted to treat the long-delayed dualling project as an urgent priority.’ A recent Freedom of Information request, probably by the Scottish Conservatives, seeking details of the number of deaths on the A9 in 2023 will have sorely disappointed them and is notably … Continue reading Deaths on A9 plummet to disappoint Murdo Fraser and Scotland’s roads revealed to be safest in UK

Thanks to SNP policies Scots far less likely to have fallen behind on bill payments

Media reports based on research by Debt Justice today have drawn attention to large numbers unable to keep up with debt payments after 14 years of Tory mismanagement of the economy, soaring costs and high taxation. The researchers kindly provided me with the breakdown across the 4 nations, not being covered in other media reporting. In South-east England, 21% had fallen behind or missed payments on any three months in the last year. In the North of England, it was 16% and in the Midlands, it was 14%. In sharp contrast, in Scotland the figure was 9%. These differences are … Continue reading Thanks to SNP policies Scots far less likely to have fallen behind on bill payments

New SNP hate crime law – Tory prof and trade unionists have not a scooby

Talking-up Scotland costs nothing so donate to our friends at  https://www.broadcastingscotland.scot/donate/ or take out a subscription to the Scots Independent newspaper in which I have a column, at: https://scotsindependent.scot/FWShop/product-category/subscriptions/ Both the Scotsman and the Herald are running with the notion that the implementation of the SNP’s new Hate Crime law will make extra work for, and confuse, already hard-pressed officers, leading to possible wrongful arrests. Says who? First, the SPF, the police officers trade union has concerns because of ‘cutbacks’. They’re a trade union, I understand. When management tries to make you do something new, you resist. I felt just the same at … Continue reading New SNP hate crime law – Tory prof and trade unionists have not a scooby

Not one English newspaper today has any story relating to the English NHS on their front pages yet in Scotland….

This site costs nothing to run so donate to our friends at  https://www.broadcastingscotland.scot/donate/ By NMRN Stephen Boyle tweeted this morning this : “Growing demand and increased costs have added to the pressure on Scotland’s NHS. Change is needed. @scotgov needs to develop a clear national strategy to deliver it”. I have highlighted the word “Change” as it is a tad familiar as a word that currently we are all being force fed by a certain political party…….and yes indeed the NHS here is very much one that is over politicised in comparison to the NHS in both England & Wales….where as , in England & … Continue reading Not one English newspaper today has any story relating to the English NHS on their front pages yet in Scotland….

Tom Hunter – ‘So, the ONLY thing Scotland’s economy needs is …..?’

By stewartb ‘Sir Tom Hunter saying Ireland has a £60billion surplus and Scotland has a £30billion deficit.’ Hadn’t seen this latest intervention in Scotland’s polity by the wealthy entrepreneur, but I do recall a similar theme covered in The Herald last year (on 5 September). Whether down to a deficit of understanding, a deficit in the journalism or a ‘political/economic ‘blindness’ caused by Unionism, the part of the article available to read online for free was IMHO fundamentally flawed! This was the headline: ‘Business veterans say Scotland can learn from Ireland’s success’. The article opened with this: ‘ONLY by engaging … Continue reading Tom Hunter – ‘So, the ONLY thing Scotland’s economy needs is …..?’
