Researchers predict more than TWICE as many BBC Scotland staff than prisoners took drugs on Christmas Day

From BBC Scotland today: Prisoners hospitalised after Christmas drug misuse – Five prisoners were taken to hospital on Christmas Day following widespread drug misuse at a Scottish prison. A total of 35 inmates at HMP Glenochil in Clackmannanshire were identified as being under the influence of drugs on 25 December, with five taken to hospital for treatment. Not in the BBC report: There are 670 prisoners in Glenochil, so less than 1% were hospitalised and 5% had taken ‘drugs’. Scotland’s A&E: is the BBC omitting positives and condoning Labour hypocrisy?

By stewartb There is a pattern here: there are longstanding, persistent efforts designed to ensure voters in Scotland won’t know this basic fact: NHS Scotland has long delivered by far the best A&E waiting times performance in the four nations, notwithstanding its acknowledged shortcomings during a seriously challenging period for the NHS across the UK. Leaders of the British Labour Party are unrelenting in their negativity about NHS Scotland: presumably they consider this will deliver electoral advantages. Fair enough you may argue: the party is in opposition in Scotland after all.  However, it’s the vitriol exhibited in Labour’s politicisation of … Continue reading Scotland’s A&E: is the BBC omitting positives and condoning Labour hypocrisy?

Opposition MSP defies facts to suggest child rape gangs might operate in Scotland

Around 50 such gangs have been identified across England: One gang of 7 or 8 men based in Glasgow raped 4 children and were found guilty in 2023. This does not represent the same phenomenon found across England, with hundreds of mostly Pakistani men and the mass rape of more than 1 000 children, trafficked from badly-run care homes to multiple locations across the region. Nevertheless in the Herald, today, the above claim by Pam Gosal, and: A Scottish Conservative MSP has said she “echoes calls” made by the UK Conservative leader for a national inquiry into tackling child sexual … Continue reading Opposition MSP defies facts to suggest child rape gangs might operate in Scotland

Recent Oxford University research PROVES Labour’s privatised health strategy WILL lead to ‘worse patient care’

By Professor John Robertson OBA An expansion of private healthcare is now a central strategy to cut waiting lists in England, from a party where many of its leaders, have received large donations from private healthcare firms, yet less than a year earlier Oxford University’s PROVED research UK Labour’s privatised health strategy WILL lead to ‘worse patient care.’ From Oxford University researchers reported in The Lancet, on 29 February 2024: A new review has concluded that hospitals that are privatised typically deliver worse quality care after converting from public ownership. Every public service in Scotland is performing better than those in other parts of the UK but one of Joseph Goebbels’ many students in Scottish Labour knows how to make it seem the opposite

Yesterday in the Guardian, Anas Sarwar is quoted as: having accused the Scottish government of “weakening every institution in Scotland“, and causing Scotland “to be stuck in a rut where Scots have to wait too long for healthcare, feel insecure both economically and often in their communities, and fear for the future opportunities of their children.” If feel sure you don’t need to be told just how inaccurate all of that rant is. I don’t doubt he too knows it’s not true. None of that matters in his drive for power. He has learned: Make the lie big, make it … Continue reading Every public service in Scotland is performing better than those in other parts of the UK but one of Joseph Goebbels’ many students in Scottish Labour knows how to make it seem the opposite

Former Labour and Jack McConnell aide desperately attempts to spread ‘grooming gang’ pandemic into Scotland based on no evidence at all

In the wake of the accusations that Keir Starmer was neglectful in his role as chief prosecutor at the time of the Rotherham Grooming [Mass child rape] Gang scandal, former Labour First Minister, Jack McConnell’s aide, Susan Dalgety, writes in the Scotsman on Saturday 4th January: Why Scotland needs urgent national investigation into child sex abuse by grooming gangs1 Leaving aside the irony of Scottish Labour calling for an inquiry into a phenomenon barely reported in Scotland at the same time as UK Labour refuses one where the phenomenon is widely reported in England, what evidence of need does Dalgety … Continue reading Former Labour and Jack McConnell aide desperately attempts to spread ‘grooming gang’ pandemic into Scotland based on no evidence at all

Major Canadian privatised ferry company persisting with far older fleet because it needs to pay bonuses and dividends, had to spend far more on maintenance than CalMac

Thanks to JB for this link. From BC Ferries (Canada) January 31st 2024, the above aging fleet. CalMac has no large ferries over 50, only the about to be retired MV Isle of Arran at 41. All of the others are less than 40 and only five are over 25. There are six new larger ferries, built on the Clyde and in Turkey, due in service within the next year or so. BC Ferries will have none before 2030. BC Ferries has spent more than $130m on maintenance in the last 5 years, so perhaps $260m in the 10 years … Continue reading Major Canadian privatised ferry company persisting with far older fleet because it needs to pay bonuses and dividends, had to spend far more on maintenance than CalMac

NHS Scotland had 27% fewer delayed hospital discharges than NHS Wales after decades of Labour control there but Scottish Labour conveniently ignore that

By stewartb More numbers designed to shock from the British Labour Party’s spokesperson on talking down Scotland’s health and social care services! Any context offered? The numbers on delayed discharge are to be deplored but are they really big by comparison to those incurred by Scotland’s peers? From the BBC News website, Wales section (November 11, 2024): ‘Staff burnout warning over plan to free NHS beds’ (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy5lqn19275o ) ‘At any one time, there are about 1,600 patients, mostly elderly, in hospital beds in Wales who are otherwise fit to be discharged. In some hospitals, this is 20% of all beds. ‘But delays around … Continue reading NHS Scotland had 27% fewer delayed hospital discharges than NHS Wales after decades of Labour control there but Scottish Labour conveniently ignore that
