John Swinney knows not one Scottish Jew has been physically assaulted in an anti-semitic attack since records began

Professor John Robertson OBA According to the Scottish Daily Express yesterday: Jewish families are considering leaving Scotland in the face of a backlash against the community over the conflict in Gaza, with the First Minister accused of stoking tensions The Jewish population is in decline but that’s a result of intermarriage, aging, assimilation, secularisation and some movement historically but not recently, to Israel and other parts of the world. There’s no sign they’d be fleeing to places where anti-semitism is much more of an issue I’ve been following the annual survey by the Jewish charity, the Community Security Trust, of … Continue reading John Swinney knows not one Scottish Jew has been physically assaulted in an anti-semitic attack since records began

Manchester synagogue attack – As Reporting Scotland try to include us in England’s violence, the important facts they won’t tell you

BBC Scotland tonight, headlining a concern with no basis in evidence. On September 8, 2025, we saw a similar attempt to include Scotland. Contrary to media hysteria, there was not one anti-semitic violent attack recorded in Scotland in 2024 By Professor John Robertson OBA, former Faculty Research Ethics Chair, UWS The most recent report on anti-semitic attacks in the UK, in 2024, from the CST, published 12 February 2025, prompted some excited media coverage at the time but today the hoisting, in Edinburgh, of a Palestine flag in sympathy for the genocide in Gaza and in line with the UN position on Palestine as … Continue reading Manchester synagogue attack – As Reporting Scotland try to include us in England’s violence, the important facts they won’t tell you

Ant-Semitic hate crime level in Scotland only one sixth of UK level and not one of the 266 physical assaults elsewhere in the UK but Kevin McKenna has this

Not for the first time, a Herald journalist tries to transfer a very real problem over the border. As always, no facts. Here they are. Rabidly anti-Scotland journalism in coverage of the latest report on anti-Semitism.

By stewartb I have no wish to underplay the awful impacts of discrimination, abuse and acts of violence against individuals and their communities that are motivated by religious or ethnic prejudice or hate. Nor do I wish to appear complacent. However, those seeking to address serious issues involved in sustaining community safety and respectful co-existence are IMHO not well served by ‘misrepresentation’ of statistics or worse. I offer the example of the Scottish Daily Express (15 February) which has been exhibiting its all too familiar rabidly anti-Scotland journalism in coverage of the Community Security Trust’s (CST) latest report on anti-semitism. Express … Continue reading Rabidly anti-Scotland journalism in coverage of the latest report on anti-Semitism.

Mis-representing anti-Semitism in Scotland

See anything odd, inconsistent, in the above map which suggests by colouring and by position in a table, that Scotland is the sixth worst part of the UK for anti-Semitic incidents? Even Wales is accurately broken down into regions like England so that we can see more accurately just where the problem is, but Scotland is presented as one region with the data totalled to make it seem worse. There are 34 council areas in Scotland so, on average each has had 2 anti-Semitic incidents putting most down at the bottom of that table. Remember that putting a leaflet through … Continue reading Mis-representing anti-Semitism in Scotland
