From June Agricultural Census 2026 published today: Results from the June Agricultural Census 2026 were published today and show that the number of cattle increased for the first time since 2021. In 2026, there were 1.67 million cattle, an increase of 0.7% compared with last year and 1.3% below the five-year average (2021 to 2025). Annual increases in male cattle, female beef cattle and calves offset a fall in female dairy cattle. The number of pigs also increased for the first time since 2022 to 327,700. From Scottish farm business income: annual estimates 2024-2025 last updated 21 April 2026, the above and: Average farm incomes rose in 2024-25, after experiencing some sharp declines in 2023-24. The increases are largely driven by higher livestock prices. Average farm income is around £58,800 in 2024-25. This is an increase of 30% (£13,400) from the previous year’s income of £45,400, which was the lowest income since 2019-20, after adjusting for inflation. Total production from the 2025 cereal harvest is around 3.14 million tonnes. A great result for overall production tonnage and a 5% increase compared to 2024. Favourable weather conditions in autumn 2024 supported winter crops. Results from the June Agricultural Census show that the total area used to grow winter crops increased 3.6% compared with the five-year average (2020 to 2024).
