The Gender Recognition Act in Scotland

From Contrary Now that you’ve mentioned the T word [in the piece on the Top 50], I want to share some links of interesting information. I really appreciate what Stu [Wings] is doing to keep us informed of the ‘debate’, and I think I can assume that most people want to avoid it, it being apparently controversial, and with the mainstream media NOT keeping us informed. I am glad his SNP-bashing has calmed down a bit too. Most ‘socially progressive’ (I.e. Not Tory) political parties are on the bandwagon, but I appreciate with the SNP in government there is a … Continue reading The Gender Recognition Act in Scotland

Major hydrogen trial for Aberdeenshire reported by BBC England only

From Ludo Thierry with further comment from Legerwood: Noticed a piece (dated 18/02) on beeb site regarding ‘Govt’ funding (presumably a Westminster/Whitehall dept. – mentions £5.2M of funding for these trials) for 2 trial projects for industrial scale production of hydrogen. One is happening at Ellesmere Port in Cheshire (Pilkington Glass and Unilever in Port Sunshine are apparently due to be trialling large scale use of the hydrogen) and the other chosen site is the St. Fergus Gas Terminal in Aberdeenshire.Precious little info in the article but it was carried on the beeb Merseyside page and the beeb Science page … Continue reading Major hydrogen trial for Aberdeenshire reported by BBC England only

Should Jackson Carlaw quit over illegal campaign donation?

Ludo Thierry Am totally puzzled by a piece carried in the National – Apparently ‘Union’ Jacko received a £5,000 donation for his ‘North British’ tory sub-branch manager campaign from a wealthy donor resident in Jersey. Don’t I recall wee Wendy Whats’it having to stand down following her labour North Brit sub-branch manager campaign accepting a donation from a Jersey resident (£300 from memory). Have the rules changed – or is history about to repeat itself?? – My Brain Hurts!! Link and snippet below: https://www.thenational.scot/news/18246224.carlaw-leadership-bid-boosted-tax-haven-donation/ REVEALED: Jackson Carlaw’s campaign backed by tax-haven donor JACKSON Carlaw’s leadership campaign was boosted by a … Continue reading Should Jackson Carlaw quit over illegal campaign donation?

‘Without gas we cannot transition to net zero’: Challenging the Unionist dismissal of Scotland’s assets

From reader stewartb and further comment from Alasdair Macdonald: It is commonplace for journalists and even industry spokespersons to refer to the ‘North Sea’ when what they really mean are the areas of the UK continental shelf which include the actual geographic North Sea plus the Scottish Atlantic Margin. The prevailing message to the electorate by Unionists is that the ‘North Sea’ is just a very mature oil & gas province and its reserves will rapidly run out. Unfortunately, I suspect that the general public fails to discern how the term ‘North Sea’ is being used: I suspect the general … Continue reading ‘Without gas we cannot transition to net zero’: Challenging the Unionist dismissal of Scotland’s assets

‘Top’ 50 Scottish News Websites On The Web

Regular readers may remember our recent shamelessly triumphal piece reporting entry at 22 in the top 50 Scottish News Websites, headed by the Daily Wrecker, and synchronistically, just below the more heavily staffed Falkirk Herald, my old local before my move to Ayr in 1984. This places TuSC in second place for pro-Indy sites behind only Wings at 17. Don’t tell the Rev Stu but the Scottish Trans Alliance is just below us at 38. Readers can see the whole chart at: Top 40 Scottish News Websites On The Web Footnote: STV News is at 3 with BBC Scotland News … Continue reading ‘Top’ 50 Scottish News Websites On The Web

EIGHT good news stories about Glasgow hospitals and all missed by BBC Scoptland

Today, we hear from our Glasgow Health Correspondent, Brian McGowan: The Gynaecology Team from the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow has been recognised for their care of hard of hearing patients. The team was highly commended in the first ever awards by the Forth Valley Hearing Access Forum. The awards acknowledge individuals and organisations which have ‘broken down barriers’ and made experiences better for deaf people. Alison Delaney, chair of the Forth Valley Hearing Access Forum, comments: “Poor hearing access is impacting on individuals everywhere. But it doesn’t need to be like this as these Awards show. Our wish … Continue reading EIGHT good news stories about Glasgow hospitals and all missed by BBC Scoptland

Scotland’s oil could last 150 years!

From reader Clydebuilt: A 2014 article in Bella Caledonia by William C. McLaughlin predicted the oil and gas fields in Scotland’s Atlantic Margin will last for between 100 to 150 yrs depending on rate of extraction: Its an enormous piece of work, but its conclusion is worth a read. To conclude, the oil and gas potential of the Scottish Atlantic Margin is VAST, and the article contained expert evidence to prove this assertion. However, the Scottish North Sea is often used as an area for certain individuals to `bleat` about “declining“ Scottish oil and gas reserves and revenues. The web … Continue reading Scotland’s oil could last 150 years!

Here’s the hard evidence on tax the Scotsman lets their ‘columnist’ Murdo Fraser get away with ignoring

The Scotsman makes a habit of presenting nakedly ideological pieces from the likes of Tory councillors, Brexit MEPs and Labour advisers as somehow professional journalism. At least with Murdo Fraser, some readers will know who he is and that this is just another Conservative Party press release of mutual benefit only to them and to the hard-pressed team at the Scotsman. At least Fraser isn’t going for Kate’s alleged ‘pro-life’ beliefs but then he’ll be tired of the many times he might as well have aborted his own guaranteed-to-lose electoral campaigns. Too far? My Humour Adviser, F. Boyle Jnr (14) … Continue reading Here’s the hard evidence on tax the Scotsman lets their ‘columnist’ Murdo Fraser get away with ignoring

How Good Morning Scotland played us for fools in 2014 with their 3 to 1 bias and the cost of keeping Eastenders

Seeing the Herald headline story above, I was cast back to a piece of research I did into Good Morning Scotland’s coverage of issues around the forthcoming referendum. They will have to go some this time round if they’re to manage the level of naked propaganda they achieved then. The full horror of their 3 to 1 bias can be found here with examples starting on page 32: https://thoughtcontrolscotland.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/propagandascotlandreferendum2014.pdf Over the space of 1 month, April 2014, 376 statements could be coded as negative for the Yes campaign, whereas only 147 could be coded as negative for Better Together. The … Continue reading How Good Morning Scotland played us for fools in 2014 with their 3 to 1 bias and the cost of keeping Eastenders
