Ministers are under pressure after Scotland was branded one of the worst countries in Europe for delivering a life-saving stroke treatment — leaving patients facing death or lifelong disability. ‘Damning’ analysis has revealed that fewer than 3% of Scots suffering a severe stroke receive thrombectomy, the emergency procedure that removes clots from the brain – the lowest rate available in Europe.
Though with inside information after a TIA some years ago which has reduced my typing accuracy omswthate, I claim no expertise other than being smart enough to know that there will be more to treatment quality than just what the Herald has found and the overall survival rate is the measure.
The 30-day stroke survival rate in Scotland is 87%.1
For England, it’s 87%.2
For the EU average, it’s 88%.3
For the USA average, it’s 86%, 4
Ireland, after independence, 92%! 5
