The Herald today with an investigation designed to drag Scotland’s maternity units into the same glare as those in England. It’s a redundant exercise and they know it but you can be sure it will be context-free and worse.

Why is it pointless?

Maternity unit inspection report requires no formal inquiry or police investigation, SIXTEEN trusts in England do, so BBC Scotland twist the inspection report to suggest ongoing worries though these were dealt with by Scottish Government TEN years ago

In England four trust maternity units, alone, are subject to police investigations. ^{1, 2, 3, 4}

Additionally, a broader national maternity and neonatal investigation (led by Baroness Amos) is examining 12 other trusts for similar failings (e.g., high perinatal mortality).⁵

In Scotland, six boards being monitored

The correct term in Scotland is ‘Support and Intervention Framework (escalation levels)‘ and no Scottish board is at level 5 indicating any safety concerns for patients. There are six being monitored at lower levels for, eg, financial problems, but none for patient safety, including waiting times, issues.⁶
