From the Herald last week, the above, and:
More than 18,000 CalMac ferries have been cancelled due to technical faults over the last five years, it has been revealed
Bobbie (10) is that big number?
It looks big at first, Mr Robertson, but will CalMac ferries maybe not have done a huger number of sailings in 5 years?
Find out for me Bobbie and do a percentage as well.
On it Mr Robertson.
It’s about 770 000, Mr Robertson!
The percentage Bobbie?
Eh, just 2.31%.
Right, class, the next bit’s easy, what percentage of sailings were not cancelled due to technical faults?
96.9%!!!
Rounded to?
97%
In a newspaper headline?
Nearly 100%
Is that good?
YEEESS Mr Robertson!
Right class, see if you can find other public services doing 97% performance?
Cannae find any Mr Robertson. Washington State Ferries are rubbish Mr Robertson.
No Nicola, never mind that poll you did on my effectiveness as a teacher- too small a sample.
Last thing, class, why do you think they just added up 5 years and didn’t tell us what the number was in each of those five years?
Steven?
Maybe the number was falling?
Difficult to find, but a Herald FOI in 2018, found over 70 000 cancellations in the previous ten years, and thus an average of 7 000 per year compared to 18 000 in the last 5 years, average 3-4 000.
So cancellations due to mechanical issues are much less common thant they were in 2007?
Who was First Minister, then class.
Jack McGoogle!!!!*
Playtime!
