This is a classic example of why the SNP or the Scottish Government would never employ me but I do not see why, in this struggle against the odds, we should refuse to consider any evidence as to why we’re different enough to be a nation, self-governing. You can be sure if the results were different, the Unionist media would report ‘Child Abuse Capital of Europe‘ or similar.

The Guardian today has:

Police arresting 1,000 paedophile suspects a month across UK – National Crime Agency says rise in child sexual abuse being driven by technology and online forums

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/feb/17/police-arresting-1000-paedophile-suspects-a-month-across-uk

There is no breakdown of the data for the 4 UK nations.

Is there any evidence of different rates of paedophile activity in the four UK nations?

Yes, there is evidence indicating different rates of child sexual abuse (often used as a proxy for paedophile activity) across the four UK nations, primarily from official recorded offence data and child protection statistics. These differences are based on police-recorded sexual offences against children and numbers of children on protection plans/registers due to sexual abuse concerns. However, direct comparisons can be challenging due to variations in data collection, definitions, reporting practices, and population sizes across nations. Prevalence estimates (e.g., from surveys) are typically UK-wide or focused on England and Wales, without granular breakdowns.Recorded Sexual Offences Against ChildrenData from official sources shows varying rates of police-recorded sexual offences against children under 16 (or under 18 in Northern Ireland). These figures reflect reported and recorded incidents, which may underrepresent the true scale due to under-reporting but provide a basis for comparison.Using 2023/24 data from the NSPCC statistics briefing (covering offences against children under 16, except Northern Ireland under 18):

NationRecorded OffencesRate per 10,000 ChildrenProportion of All Sexual Offences
England56,67453.232%
Wales3,52364.237%
Scotland3,57039.925%
Northern Ireland2,24251.355%

Wales has the highest rate, followed by England and Northern Ireland, with Scotland showing the lowest. These rates account for child population differences and suggest regional variations in detection, reporting, or incidence.
