Thanks to Dave Lodge for sharing this with me.

From CEO CalMac, Diane Burke, to all staff, in recent days:

and:

Note that all of this has been shared with ‘our‘ news media yet, as you know from posts here, they have not only ignored it, they have told other tales based on infantile twisting of statistics and platforming lying critics with clear Unionists agendas.

They have no shame.

  1. The Head of Calmac explains to the staff they have informed the media – yet they continue attacks on Calmac. Do the seamen’s unions not know this?

  2. So the Chief Operating Officer tells staff that CalMac performance statistics have been shared widely with journalists to bring ‘balance and accuracy to coverage’. So currently the coverage is not balanced and not accurate? Shocked!!!!

CalMac publishes performance statistics regularly: does the COO really think such data have ever in the past c.10 years or more been utilised by journalists motivated to bring balance and accuracy? Does the COO really believe that this latest ‘sharing’ with journalists will make a blind bit of difference to the nature of the coverage?

Given what seems clear evidence here of corporate-level concern about the media coverage CalMac is getting, is it not time – actually long past time – that the Chair of the CalMac board spoke out publicly and clearly on media misrepresentation and bias by omission in support of the company’s workforce and reputation?

From the CalMac website: ‘Erik Østergaard – Non Executive Chairman Erik Østergaard OBE is CEO of a transport and logistics organisation. He has more than 35 years of experience in senior management positions in the shipping, ferry and transportation industry. Originally trained in shipping, he later studied international economics and management at IMD in Lausanne, Stanford Graduate School of Business, California, and Boot School of Business, University of Chicago from where he earned a degree as Master of Business Administration. He has held and holds office as a Non-Executive Board Member or Chairman of several companies in the shipping and transportation industry, numerous government committees and boards of trade associations.’

Time for the highly experienced Mr Østergaard to make a public statement?
