To be fair, she’s in the top position, though we’ll soon see how long she lasts there and you’ll note they’ve kept the ‘sex offender‘ bit small and the ‘paedophile‘ bit invisible.

In an extended piece by Andrew Kerr, there’s complete avoidance of the word ‘paedophile‘ and absolutely no historical context of the kind we always get with the SNP.

Here it is:

Two Scottish Labour MSP, Anas Sarwar and Pam Duncan Glancy, both long-term friends of known paedophiles, but the problems run far deeper at Scottish Labour.

Based on extensive searches [100 web pages and posts] across web sources and X posts, the Scottish Labour Party has had the most individuals (primarily councillors) reported in the media as convicted sex offenders since 2007. This includes at least five confirmed convictions for child sex offences [in order above]:

  • Sean Morton (2017): Convicted of possessing indecent images of children and extreme pornography. @msm_monitor
  • David Fagan (2018): Convicted of sharing child rape fantasies online. @msm_monitor
  • Craig Edward (2024): Convicted of possessing indecent images of children. @msm_monitor
  • Ewan Dillon (2024): Convicted of possessing images of girls aged 5-10 being raped. @msm_monitor
  • David Graham (2025): Convicted of sexual offences involving a 15-year-old girl.

In comparison:

  • SNP: One confirmed conviction (former councillor Mark Kerr, jailed in 2022 for grooming and sexually assaulting teenage boys). bbc.com Others, such as Jordan Linden, were charged but not confirmed as convicted in available reports. news.stv.tv
  • Scottish Conservatives: No confirmed convictions found; one councillor (Michael Green) was charged in 2021, but no conviction reported. theguardian.com
  • Scottish Liberal Democrats: No confirmed convictions found.
  • Scottish Greens: No confirmed convictions found.

Note that media reports often focus on allegations or charges rather than solely convictions, but “sex offenders” typically refers to those convicted and placed on the sex offenders register. Sources across political spectrums (e.g., BBC, Daily Record, X discussions) highlight Labour’s cases as the most numerous, with balanced coverage showing fewer for other parties.

  1. O/T but still on Labour.

Is the British Labour Party capable of delivering beneficial change for Scotland? On 9 February, in a BBC News website article headlined ‘Cabinet ministers rally round PM as Sarwar urges him to quit’, we learn that Sarwar said the situation in Downing Street was “not good enough” and that “too many mistakes” had been made at the top of government.

And also on 9 February, under the BBC News website’s headline ‘Sarwar makes his biggest political gamble – but can it pay off?’, BBC Scotland’s political editor reports that Sarwar’s problem with the PM goes beyond the Mendelson affair.

‘Sarwar’s position hardened over the weekend. He is no longer prepared to defend a prime minister in whom he has lost confidence.

He is frustrated that the PM’s accepted misjudgement in appointing Mandelson, despite his known links to Jeffrey Epstein, is not an isolated error. Many in Scottish Labour believe the blunders and about turns that have marked Starmer’s leadership are wrecking their Holyrood election campaign.’ (my emphasis)

Throughout, Mr Sarwar has been justifying his action on the basis of prioritising concerns for Scotland! So having worked to persuade voters in Scotland to support Labour in the 2024 Westminster election, the party’s leadership here has now lost confidence in the real leadership in Westminster due to its succession of blunders and about turns. Hardly makes the case for voting Labour in Scotland again any time soon!

But are there other ways to test the governing credentials of the Labour Party before voting in May? Well there’s Labour in government in Cardiff, governing there a lot longer than even the SNP has in Edinburgh.

Regular readers of TuS will be aware of the ‘troubled’ state of NHS Wales: many may have wondered WHY Labour leaders in Scotland have failed to ‘educate’ their colleagues in the Welsh government on the Sarwar/Baillie clever plan to solve the ills of NHS Scotland!

We won’t repeat the evidence that compares NHS Scotland favourably with NHS Wales. But what of that other target of Labour’s gaslighting campaign, namely Scottish education? What about Labour’s track record running a national education system with (just) devolved powers?

From the BBC News website’s Wales page (11 February): ‘Many children ‘failed’ by teaching standards – watchdog – The report says teaching is inconsistent, particularly in secondary schools’ (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2gl3z9y2go )

In summary, the BBC reports on the annual report of Estyn, the Welsh education inspectorate:

    – It describes a system held back by inconsistency, mixed priorities and with “significant weaknesses in the development of some of the basics of education, such as reading, mathematics and digital skills”

    – in secondary schools in particular teaching was very variable and the literacy skills of too many teachers were weak, which affected pupils’ development

    – identifies long-standing concerns about the quality of teaching, particularly in secondary schools where there was consistent high-quality teaching in only a minority of schools. Whilst in two thirds of the secondary schools inspected, teaching was “generally satisfactory” in the majority of lessons but there was weak teaching and planning in other lessons, where “expectations were too low, and feedback was inconsistent or lacked clarity”

    – the teacher training system had been “unable to ensure that we have sufficient staff with the right skills and specialism”.

And on ‘Gaps in teachers’ own knowledge’: – problems included “limited clarity on national expectations, and gaps in teachers’ own literacy knowledge” as well as teacher training programmes which “rarely equipped student teachers with sufficient knowledge and understanding of how to plan for and teach reading effectively across age phases”

On other systemic concerns – the failure of schools to effectively evaluate their own strengths and weaknesses; schools struggling to recruit teachers; pupil attendance is still a problem with absences above pre-pandemic levels

And, by August 2025, 18 primary and 11 secondary school in special measures with 14 primaries and 11 secondaries requiring significant improvement.

My point is not to denigrate the Welsh government: Welsh voters will make their own judgements shortly. It’s not even to excuse any shortcomings in Scotland’s education system or in its government, by comparison.

Rather it is to call into question the credentials – and candidly, the integrity – of a Labour Party whose politicians seek our votes in May by gaslighting Scotland, provide scant new policy proposals and airbrush the performance of their very own party’s running of education and health services in Wales after many decades in power.

Whatever Scotland needs beyond May 2026, all the evidence – from Westminster and Cardiff, from the examples of health and education services – indicates that the credentials of the British Labour Party for delivering beneficial change for Scotland fall far short of convincing – to say the least!
