From Hospital Standardised Mortality Ratios (HSMR) October 2024 to September 2025 published today, we can see below, that the regularly but unfairly criticised Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, is not just as safe as any other in Scotland but is, in fact, safer than the average with a 3.7% mortality rate and 182 fewer deaths than anticipated, giving it a 0.94 hospital standardised mortality ratio.

It’s also much safer than its namesake in England.

This won’t be reported but you can be sure if it was different, a higher than average mortality rate and more deaths than expected, who’d be to blame – SNP Government.

In the same period, the Queen Elisabeth Hospital in Kings Lynn, Norfolk had 430 more deaths than predicted and an HSMR of 1.45. 56 NHS England hospitals had a score of 1.0 or above and ten had a score of 1.2 or above.
