Being reported repeatedly by BBC Scotland today in broadcasts and more fully on their website:

According to the Royal College of GPs (RCGP), about a quarter of working time for general practice doctors in Scotland is spent supporting patients who are waiting for specialist appointments, placing a “significant and unsustainable pressure” on staff.

RCGP Scotland vice chair Dr Chris Williams said: “When patients face long periods on secondary care waiting lists, they often return to general practice for ongoing care or as their condition deteriorates while they wait to be seen.”

He added: “There is real moral distress associated with repeatedly seeing patients who are suffering in an overloaded system.

“It is profoundly demoralising for all healthcare professionals who want to do the best for their patients but are constrained by circumstances beyond their control.”

It’s a complete lie. It is not an RCGP report at all!

The claim appears to stem from a new report titled “Wellbeing by Design,” released on February 2, 2026, by the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland (MDDUS). This report was developed by an independent expert group of senior medics that includes representatives from the Royal College of GPs (RCGP) Scotland—specifically Dr. Chris Provan, chair of the RCGP Scottish Council. The report is not available to us, only fed carefully to media.

It draws on a survey of 333 Scottish doctors, finding that 66% have experienced or are experiencing burnout, and warns that without preventative measures (e.g., safe workloads, national wellbeing targets), Scotland risks losing clinicians in numbers that could render NHS care unsustainable and harm patient safety.

The the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland (MDDUS) is little more than a London-based website with no declared membership in Scotland.

333? What percentage is that of the 4,953 GPs (excluding locums) in Scotland? 6.7% and only two thirds of them, 222 have experienced burnout?

Has BBC Scotland been responsible in reporting this? No, it’s a disgrace and clear anti-SNP propaganda.

  1. How did Lisa Summers let this fanciful report on supposed “burn out” by 222 or near as dammit Scottish Doctors get anywhere near the BBC network.

God, its almost as though she doesn’t care about accuracy when covering her brief. Is this what “Trusted Journalism” has come to, or have I mixed up the wrong propaganda outfit?
