Professor John Robertson OBA
From Public Health Scotland on 26 August 2025 (latest figures):
There was estimated to be 639,579 individuals on at least one new outpatient, inpatient or day case waiting list at 30 June 2025. This equates to 1 in 9 of Scotland’s population (mid-2024 population estimates Scotland).1
On the 27th May, from the same source, we heard:
This equates to 1 in 9 of Scotland’s population.
Why do I reveal the 27th May official figure?
The next day, the Daily Record and Jackie Baillie told us:
SNP promise to reduce NHS waiting lists rings hollow for 1 in 6 Scots left languishing. A total of 860,925 people are currently waiting for operations, outpatient appointments or diagnostic tests.2
How did they get it so wrong? One way is that they, stupidly or sneakily did not use the number of people on the waiting lists but the far larger ‘number of pathways‘ list in which some people feature more than once, because they’re on a waiting list, perhaps, for arthritis AND heart treatment AND mental health treatment.
As for the Cons, on 5 September 2025 (!) they were still using the 1 in 6 figure.
Does this matter? 1 in 6 or 1 in 9? Do these ratio differences look a bit small?
They may well, until you convert them into raw numbers. 1 in 6 is actually around 900 000 people and 1 in 9 is around 600 000, a huge difference of 300 000 people
Sources:

How many ‘pathways’ in England then? Must be a lot larger than 10 x Scottish number?

I noticed that Gordon MacDonald SNP called a point of order say Sarwar misled Parliament on figures in the NHS for me not misled but lied but not seen on MSM.
As a small point on the ITV weather news today the person said some snow for NORTH BRITAIN and SCOTLAND does he know something we don’t.

Labour lies again. Lie after lie, after lie. Totally thick. No wonder there polling is so low. 11% turnout in Wales. Holyrood 2026 awaits. 6 month. A total wipe out.
