War of the Labour Roses! Can the mutual admiration of Jackie Baillie and Wes Streeting survive his savage attack on her pals and supporters in the BMA?

Professor and Agony Aunt, John Robertson OBA

On 7 August 2023, we could read in the National:

Wes Streeting: Jackie Baillie ‘one of sharpest political minds in UK’

Today, in the Guardian, we see:

British Medical Association ‘threat to future of NHS’, says Streeting ahead of doctors’ strike – Health secretary accuses doctors’ union of ‘cartel-like behaviour’ and tells it to ‘get real’ over pay demands

She’s not going to like it.

Why?

In the last two years, just as Labour’s health spokesperson, not shadow health secretary as it seems from media coverage (That’s Sandy Gullane), she has several times attacked the SNP Government on behalf of BMA members, from junior doctors, to consultants, to GPs, backing up uncritically their complaints.

Can their relationship survive the comments by Wes today?

Will they end up fighting like Michael Douglas and Kathryn Taylor in the film War of the Roses?

  1. Yeh , it seems that Labour in Scotland just cannot get a break ?….

Or even Get in sync with Labour HQ……..

Jackie B loves the BMA in Scotland, while in Labour HQ , Wes S clearly does not.

Then of course their other big problem being how will Labour HQ ever manage to achieve that which they said they were determined to achieve as the new UK government ?

Which was a promise of growth.

Today it has been reported that the “UK economy grows slower than expected“. As the UK economy sees slower than expected growth of 0.1% in the three months to September, the final figures before the Budget.

It was also previously reported that the UK economy was ‘unexpectedly’ shrinking by 0.1% in September 2025

So many of us have had to endure and so suffer from many various cuts being made by Labour HQ as the new UK government , that have then negatively impacted ordinary and vulnerable people.

As well as some others having had to endure and so suffer Labour HQ sustaining some cruel Tory Policies, like for example the Two Child cap remaining..….and for what ?

Failure……….on their big goal which was ….growth.

I can even remember Ian Murray being reported as saying this below in October 2024, that is when he was formerly the SOS against Scotland and before he was sacked by Herr Starmer:

“Next week’s Westminster Budget will “herald an era of growth for Scotland” he also added this will happen “after years of damaging austerity from the Tories, made even worse for Scottish public services by the incompetent SNP.”.

Well , when is the “era of growth” via a Labour UK government going to begin for Scotland , as so far, things are “being made worse for the Scottish public by the incompetent Labour UK government”.

Allow us now a moment to gloat at what is happening now within Labour HQ just as they gloated on their undeserved success last year in Scotland in the UK GE.

Karma , they say. does eventually visit those…..who deserve it.

Now is that time for Labour HQ and also their Branch office in Scotland also.

Did no one tell Labour HQ that when they (over) promoted in their 2024 GE election campaign , that there would be “Change” with them as the new UK government…….that if they were successful as in they won the GE, then they would actually have to really deliver , not just “Change” but what was seen and felt to be a tangible “change” for the better by all of the people who elected them and also those who did not vote for them too ?

Well obviously that would be a big fat NO then.

So yet another #FAIL for Labour HQ.

    Tiny violins coming up………

We could lay all blame upon Morgan McSweeney for the huge fiasco within Labour just now……..but then who was it who appointed McSweeney, then also listened to McSweeney and so then has taken his, McSweeney’s , advice…….

Only now for that very poor decision by Keir Starmer in employing McSweeney as Labour’s Downing Street Chief of Staff and then also Starmer taking a lot of the ongoing subsequent bad advice from McSweeney to now be the very things that are destroying his , Starmer’s, perhaps continued leadership of the Labour party……..

He , Starmer, now reaps that which he himself has sown.

  2. Streeting has taken masses of money from US to start sell off of the English NHS..his faux concern about strikes is just that, a huge huge ruse. Classic tactics, praise the unpraiseworthy in your party, pretend you care about services so a bit of faux outrage at your boss, Starmer, then folks believe Streeting is a wee angel, not so bad after all, and Bob’s your uncle, the dismantling of the NHS is in the bag. Baillie, ‘sharpest political mind’? Hilarious.
We really are being gaslit jeezo.

  3. The SNHS is separate. The SNP Scottish Gov has to mitigate Westminster’s underfunding of the NHS. For 14 years the Tories cut the budget in real terms.

The Labour Party are in a state. A total useless mess.
