Why has J K Rowling never commented on the Darlington Trans Tribunal?

Thanks to Alasdair Macdonald and to Liz S for giving me this idea.

Has J K Rowling commented on the Darlington NHS trans tribunal?

No, J.K. Rowling has not commented on the Darlington NHS trans tribunal as of November 12, 2025.The tribunal involves seven nurses from Darlington Memorial Hospital (County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust) challenging their employer’s policy allowing a transgender colleague, Rose Henderson (born male, identifies as a woman), to use the women’s changing rooms.

How often did she comment on the Fife trans tribunal?

J.K. Rowling commented on the Fife trans tribunal (Sandie Peggie v NHS Fife) at least 5 times on X during the hearings in July 2025.The tribunal involved nurse Sandie Peggie challenging NHS Fife after she was suspended for objecting to a transgender colleague (Dr Beth Upton, born male) using the women’s changing rooms. Rowling’s comments focused on supporting Peggie, criticising NHS Fife’s handling, and highlighting class and ideological biases in the case. Her posts include:

  • July 19, 2025: Quoted an article calling Peggie a heroine and stating “a woman spoke up against an entitled man, and her employers punished her for it.” @jk_rowling
  • July 21, 2025: Defended Peggie against smears about her family, saying NHS Fife “appear to have lost their marbles, as well as their moral bearings.” @jk_rowling
  • July 23, 2025 (two posts in a thread): Criticised witness Dr Kate Searle’s testimony on sex recognition and withholding information. @jk_rowling
  • July 23, 2025: Long post praising Peggie as a “heroine” and exposing “brain rot and compassion deficit” in gender ideology enforcers. @jk_rowling

  1. “Why has J K Rowling never commented on the Darlington Trans Tribunal”?

Though TBF she, Rowling, has commentated upon the Darlington Nurses case….her most recent posts were reported to be on October 30, 2024 and October 19, 2025.

October 30, 2024 – she responded to the Unison trade union president’s post, which accused Wes Streeting of “pandering to anti-Trans bigotry”.

Rowling responded:”@UnisonSteve you posted in support of female nurses being compelled to undress in front of a male. Millions of women stand with the Darlington nurses”.

And also she also commented on Wes Streeting’s meeting with the nurses, writing:

“Bothering to listen to regular women has been in short supply lately, so fair play to him” (Wes Streeting).

October 19, 2025.-  she reacted to a Telegraph article about the case by reiterating a previous post:

“It isn’t a female changing room if it includes trans-identified men. I hope the Darlington nurses know how many millions of women stand with them”.

The Darlington Nurse Tribunal started on Wednesday October 22nd 2025……..

Also note how she was only too willing to defend and praise the Labour Health Secretary Wes Streeting in this matter.

        1. Did you know it’s named after a word in Robert Heinlein’s 60s SF ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’ meaning to really understand something. I really grok BBC Scotland’s culture.

You’d have to be careful with the word in some circumstances as it doesn’t sound too polite.

  3. JK hasn’t had time to comment on the ‘Darlington’ case as she is in the throes of writing her new Trans-gender novel in which a boy wizard is thwarted in his attempts to join the female only Witches-R-US society .

In his desire to enter the elevated realms of witchcraft , which is controlled by the W-R-US and from which acne-spotted schoolboys are excluded , he subjects himself to the infamous Castratus spell which removes his genitalia and replaces it with an enhanced moral certainty that only W-R-US members ( pun intended ) are capable of achieving .

Harriet ( as our hero / heroine , is to be known ) is confronted with many embittered rivals who obstruct his/her every attempt to join their closed society and who use all their money , power and influence to denigrate poor Harriet in the eyes of the ……

There follows another nine novels , with film rights and merchandising out to bidders .

  4. For interest – and comparison – the request below to ChatGPT elicited a lengthy response which includes multiple references to Rowling. Seems she has made several interventions and these get aggregated and amplified by sympathetic news source like GB News, according to the AI response.

‘Please provide a summary – from press and social media sources over past 3 years – of any reference to the ongoing case involving NHS Darlington and trans rights issues made by the author and gender critical activist J K Rowling.’
