Scotland spends 17% more on culture and leisure

as libraries and gyms isn’t keeping up with rising costs, according to the public spending watchdog. It’s up to each council to decide what to spend and what to provide and services vary significantly across the country. According to research by the Accounts Commission, the value of their spending nationally is down 3% since 2018.

Scotland thus spends 16% more, £20 more per person, per year

That’s quite a lot when you remember these differences apply to 5.5 million people in Scotland – £11 million in total.
