The Daily Mail in April 2025 had the above headline and:

Today, inews has:

The Daily Mail did not, of course, have the facts. Here they are:
For 2025, the SNP Government has funded 5 313 new affordable home starts to a level down from a peak of 11 158 in 2021 but above the level before 2014 and still almost twice that of the last Labour government in Scotland, only 3 100.
AND:
According to the latest official statistics from the Scottish Government, as reported in the Quarterly Housing Statistics update to June 2025, Scotland has delivered a total of 140,346 affordable homes since 2007. This includes 100,064 homes for social rent, with the rest for other affordable rent and ownership options. These figures reflect government-supported completions through the Affordable Housing Supply Programme and other initiatives, marking progress toward the current target of 110,000 affordable homes by 2032 (of which 29,680 have been completed so far). The data shows Scotland leading the UK in affordable housing delivery per head of population since 2007, with over 40% more than England and 70% more than Wales.
See that 140 346 above?
The Herald had this:

So, target exceeded already?

So, the English Propaganda sheet ( Daily Wail ) SEVEN years before the target year ( 2032 ) bewails the ”fact” that the Scottish Government MAY miss its Affordable Housing target ?
I will predict that by 2032 the Daily Wail won’t give a toss about any Scottish Housing targets as by then Scotland will be free of the albatross that is the UK .

Politicians wonder why Farage and his ilk of self promoting soundbite candidates are winning the battle for voters other than media bias.
This article continues this issue. Politicians and their patronising jargon have lost the public. The inability to speak plainly and accept issues but show a road ahead. Can any SNP MP/MSP actually give an example of what they would do differently to achieve better outcomes for the people of this country or parrot we will have control. To do what?
”Affordable” means what exactly? A £5 million home is ”affordable” if I can afford it. Between 1980 to 2020, houses prices rose 1140% while GDP rose 87%. Wages grew 64% so labour and material costs were not a cause.
With a £33000 average wage and 3 times salary the previous maximum for a mortgage are £200000 average homes ”affordable?”.
This brings us to how we manage council/social housing as we do not do it well. Large family homes with one adult left as the family have, underinvestment in maintenance.
The devil is in the detail but no one adds that detail. Calling out the jargon and replace it with appropriate words which resonate with people as they recognise the truth behind them.
Bin ”affordable” to start the movement.

Scottish Gov building 6,000 affordable houses a year. Builders building 17,000 houses. 50,000+ people dying.
Scotland pop has only gone up 400,000 since Devolution 2000. There must be enough houses.

Loads of empty houses, loads of air b&b’s and in cities like Edinburgh literally thousands upon thousands of short term lets, ie, flats and houses only for holiday lets and only for part of the year, otherwise unoccupied. Last i looked since 2022, more than 7000 properties are short term lets in Edinburgh, the English HQ’d parties, running the council as a coalition (though SNP won majority of councils seats in 2022) Labour/Tory/Libdems council hand licenses out like sweeties. No tousist tax they refiuse to do that..residents not able to find a home, tough!
