91% of Scots reject a return to direct rule

At 9% the view that Scotland should not have a parliament at all is, as it has always been, very much a minority one.

Which parties or politicians wish to see Scotland return to direct rule from London?

Reform UK Party deputy leader Richard Tice has described devolution as part of “failed” regional experiments. This aligns with the party’s roots in UKIP, which campaigned against devolution in the 1990s.

Tories opposed Scottish and Welsh devolution referendums in 1997, positioning as the “anti-devolution party.” Post-1999, they committed to “making it work” but retain unionist skepticism, e.g., intervening in devolved areas like gender reform (UK Internal Market Act 2020). The 2024 manifesto promised to “maintain the balance of powers” and block certain Senedd decisions (e.g., 20mph zones), indicating a centralized approach. No 2025 reversal pledges, but internal voices (e.g., unionist MPs) criticize devolution as fueling separatism.

  1. “91% of Scots reject a return to direct rule”

So hopefully the same majority also “reject” Reform UK as their voting preference.

Turkeys……Voting……For……….Xmas……would be the outcome of that option as a vote within Scotland………..as it , as a vote, would only be people voting for the new version of the Tory party…where (too) many ex Tory politician’s have now defected to……..

I mean when was the last time Scotland chose to vote Tory over other political parties….so why would they now change their normal political habit………in ever considering voting for an even more extreme version of the Tory party that welcomed the more extreme Tories from the original Tory party ?

Of course those , within Scotland, who would vote both Tory & Reform UK are those who want to see the Holyrood parliament shut down and so UK direct rule to be imposed again….as obviously they want to suffer the same fate as people within England now suffer….with poor public services, extortionate Tuition fees, bankrupt Councils and indeed all and benefits removed that they now get via the Scottish devolved government……as for them , their spite and hatred goes very very deep……..even to the extent of them punishing themselves in so many aspects of their lives………

This vote of course would then allow parties like Reform UK to behave even worse than the current UK political parties now do under devolution !

Pecking order , with devolution , and with Labour HQ now in charge , now sees Scotland as being at the bottom of the British food chain….however with UK direct rule under a potential future Reform UK government then we, Scotland , would not even be a part of the British food chain as we would be starved in so many ways , as a Nation , within their Britain……..while of course we would still keep seeing all of our high quality and world class Scottish produce and also our precious Scottish resources being plundered and utilised to only benefit the UK government’s Treasury……and only benefitting other parts of the UK State (as in UK rule is anywhere but Scotland)………….

Vote Reform UK or indeed any other pro UK political parties and then reap what you have sown….aka being prepared to suffer….badly.

  2. Reform UK Party deputy leader Richard Tice has described devolution as part of “failed” regional experiments.’

I’m inclined to agree with him when it comes to Scotland at least, tho’ I suspect we would not agree on what constitutes the failure and why it has occurred.

So what is Reform’s stance on Scotland within a ‘voluntary union’ and on Scotland’s ‘right to self-determination’?

From Hansard, one can read the transcript of a debate on ‘British Indian Ocean Territory: Sovereignty’, on the subject of the future of the Chagos Island (Volume 759: debated on Wednesday 18 December 2024).

During the Commons debate, Nigel Farage MP (Reform) states: ‘If we respect the sovereignty of Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands, on the basis that it is what the people want, can we have a referendum of all the eligible Chagossians and let them decide the future sovereignty of the Chagos islands? That, surely, is the only fair solution.’ (my emphasis)

Coming to constitutional decisions based on ‘what the people want’; committing to let the people decide; adopting the one ‘fair solution’!

Will Reform similarly respect the agency of the electorate in Scotland? I wonder!

    1. ‘Regional’. The English fascists would remove Scotland’s nation status and close down Holyrood. Labcons daren’t do that re votes but ‘reform’ if they did take control of WM, wouldn’t flinch when it comes to the ‘devolved’ administrations.

  3. Unionist political parties just want to “own” all our Scottish resources without paying for them. The Great Oil Heist all over again. If they could just keep the Scottish people in manacles till they’ve siphoned off everything we have that would make their lives so much easier. Bastards!

    And the Fascists are worse.
