Professor John Robertson OBA
From Scottish Household Survey 2024 Childcare published today:
More than half said that they found it easy (17%) or very easy (34%) to afford childcare, with a further quarter (25%) stating they found it neither easy nor difficult. However, 10% of households said that they found it difficult to afford childcare, and 6% found it very difficult
So, 16% in total in Scotland found it difficult or very difficult to afford childcare.
From the Department for Education’s Childcare and Early Years Survey of Parents (2024) published on 10 July 2025:
Around 31% of households [in England] with children aged 0-4 years only who pay for childcare find it difficult or very difficult to afford the costs.

Almost twice as many households in England than in Scotland, per head, find it difficult or very difficult to afford the costs of childcare

What England has Scotland will get should any England HQ’d parties take control of Holyrood next year and it won’t take them long to reverse all positive socially responsible policies of the SNP (and Scottish Greens bless em).
I always think it is a bit strange, parents have to plonk their kids in nursery, while going out to work, to pay for someone else to look after their kids.
