PM Starmer still confuses references to the place over which he governs

Labour List published the transcript of Keir Starmer’s speech at the recent British Labour Party conference. (see https://labourlist.org/2025/09/labour-conference-2025-keir-starmer-speech-in-full/ )

Despite the best efforts (?) of his speech writers, PM Starmer still confuses references to the place over which he governs. Here are some extracts from the speech, with my comments.

‘It is a great country… It will always be a great country… ………… That’s the Britain I’m fighting for, conference… A nation of resolve… A land of respect… A Britain built for all.’ – we start here with ‘Britain’ being a single country AND a single nation.

‘That’s the most important aspect of national renewal. The way you grow an economy… Not just how much… But who and where benefits… That can either build a nation… Or it can it pull it apart.’ – here Starmer is concerned with building and ‘renewing’ ONE nation.

‘Britain needs an economy that unites. Every person… Every community… Every great nation on these islands… Standing together, as so often in our past… Facing down the threats of a volatile world.’ – now Britain is composed of MULTIPLE NATIONS.

‘But I can say… I can say I’m not just proud of the Union Jack and the cross of St. George… I’m also proud of the Saltire… Of the Red Dragon… Proud of our union… This astonishing relationship between four great nations… Four different nations, yes… But four nations that time and again… Have been through the fire, together…’ – we’re still with MULTIPLE NATIONS.

‘What we stand for… A campaign to renew Wales… Renew Scotland… And Renew Britain.’ – England is missing from his list here, and so is the north of Ireland.

‘On the economy, that’s about understanding… That proud working-class towns… They want to be backed by investment, of course… But they don’t want to rely on handouts or help… They want more power and control… More wealth creation in their community… That’s how they stand, on their own feet, as proud partners in this project of our nation.‘ –we’re back where we started, with ONE NATION!

‘But I will… I will fight it with every breath I have… Fight for working people… Fight for the tolerant, decent, respectful Britain that I know… People say a nation like ours can’t be a community… That it’s too diverse… Too divided… I reject that…’ – and once again, it’s ONE NATION.

It’s like trying to keep up with the shifts in usage displayed on an almost daily basis on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme! Why is it so difficult for the Anglo-British establishment to get this right … or at least to be consistent? Limited attention or understanding of what is peripheral to England? Perhaps the ‘region of North Britain’ would be so much neater!

  1. Ah, yes, we are all to become Ukadians. Of course, England will still be England within Ukadia. Actually, there’s not much difference to now, when you think about it.

    The best name I read online (by a Scot) for the UK State was “Absurdistan” …..that was when it was either Theresa May or Boris Johnson as the UK PM…but really, as a name, it also very much fits now with Labour in charge and with Starmer as the latest absurd PM at the helm…..of Absurdistan.

    Well it’s what we always say on here and elsewhere too…………politicians like Starmer and also the ‘British’ media see England as being synonymous with “Britain” so then England is included in Starmer’s quote……….just under it’s ‘(un)official’ name.

    Also as to Northern Ireland well the Brit Politicians always forget that part of the UK State………..like say back in 2016 when they were punting Brexit….and they all neglected the (huge) problem with one part of their UK State………which was a shared border between NI (UK) and Eire (EU member).…..oops…….. or rather they cared not a jot for NI or it’s people……….aka the forgotten part of their, BritNat, or rather their UK State.

    As to Starmer’s “One Nation” nonsense in relation to Britain (minus NI as the UK State)…..does that then only make him the British PM and not the UK State PM (his words and his overused reference)………..confused ?………that’s what they want you to be………

    Well why then does he as the British “One Nation” UK PM, always only pick out England as a ‘proud nation’ on their patron saint’s day via a yearly video by him on ‘X’ ………. also in sporting events involving their (England’s) National teams (both sexes) for Football & Rugby……the UK PM only comments on them as National sides within his UK State….and not any other UK or British National sides….(Scotland, Wales or NI)…………..

    ‘British values’ ?………no such thing…..so stop lumping us all together as “One Nation”

    It’s a nonsense….spin…..meaningless enforced British Nationalist S****

    In fact what we are all witnessing just now in UK State politics…. is the pathetic sight of all British political parties (that includes the -Toryfied- Labour party-also the actual-Tories and – the even nastier version of the Tories and the Labour party- that is the Reform UK pretend party -even Ed Davey is at it too with his Lib Dem HQ……… this is a BritNat political stand off as to which party is the most Patriotic British party within the, checks notes, UK State………….

    They are all, as British Political parties, hijacking their British flag as a (falsely) assumed symbol of their respective party’s more uber ‘British patriotism’ identity….. which for some of them (badly) disguises their uber English Nationalism………..

    To quote Ian Murray (again) “You cannot eat flags”

    However we also all know that being uber “patriotic” , but only to their Britain, does not enhance our lives anywhere within their UK State………….

    In the sense that it does not change the dire circumstances that we are all continuing to suffer under via a succession of useless and nasty UK governments……….with what is now very much a constant cost of living crisis still existing with the latest (new) UK government………which is currently the Labour party.

    Also we are seeing a UK State that is embracing and endorsing extreme right wing politics not just under the Labour party but also with other British parties as well…and then there is also currently , with Labour and other UK parties, an uncomfortable alliance between the UK State and a America that is led by the moronic MAGA President Donald Trump…..and his right party the Republicans.

    Indeed the latest nonsense coming from the Tory party is where Kemi Badenoch , their latest new leader (one of too many in such a short period of time) is being reported to be…….

    “Pledging to create an Immigration taskforce modelled on Trump’s ICE”…….

    OMG…….so I read this online in reference to that ……where someone typed a response to it where they wrote :

    “ICE are hated by so many because they operate like a Gestapo. That Badenoch thinks creating a UK version is a vote winner tells you just how utterly stupid she is”.……

    So is it only Stupid ?…….or is it the act of a new(ish) Tory leader that is now really really really very (too) desperate……as in desperate to be relevant as the new(ish) Tory leader, also desperate to win back Tory voters from Reform UK and also desperate to try to stop more Tory politicians defecting to Reform UK………….

    Tories have embraced , endorsed and so adopted Farage’s rhetoric and policy S**** before……

    Then they , the Tories, were pretty much destroyed as a party within the UK…..now via Badenoch’s stupid and desperate (non) solution to that Tory destruction she apparently wants the Tories to just continue to embrace, endorse and so adopt both Farage’s and Trump’s S****………

    That is… Badenoch intends to continue adopting a UK BritNat Version of what has now become a Fascist America under Trump for her (non) vision of a Future UK Fascist State (as created and dictated by Nigel Farage and his pretend political party) …..

    All being done just for her to try and win back Tory voters from Reform UK…………

    Does she not have any original ideas for her BritNat Tory party to offer the British voters ?………….obviously not.

    So really there is so very little distinction between BritNat parties just now…..as they are all too busy trying to prove that they are , as BritNat political parties, the most patriotic Brits politically……..

    While conveniently (for them) forgetting the clear distinction between different nations that exist within their UK and Britain……(in fact completely forgetting NI) …..but also never ever forgetting England as a distinct Nation within their Britain/ UK State (as most of them as ‘UK‘ leaders are English….so that means they identify as being English First….in more ways than one with some of them)…………

    Next year I hope people in Scotland vote for **real change, a new direction, for real reform and for a total renewal**.……which means they would not vote for Labour, or the Tories, or Reform UK or indeed also not vote for the ‘scavenger for votes party’ aka the Lib Dems…..

    But instead , as a first step on the road to achieving all of the real and achievable goals as quoted **above** ….then people within Scotland should only vote for those political parties who want to see Scotland win it’s independence away from the UK State……..like say vote for the SNP…..

    You know I would laugh at how pathetic and ridiculous this Absurdistan (UK) State really was and still is as a State ……… that promotes it’s BritNat patriotism via it’s BritNat politicians (forces it down all of our throats)….but it is way way too serious to be laughed at……

    So really “now is the time” (imperative really) for more Scots living in Scotland to finally seek and so then finally discover a real and workable solution for them and their real Nation/Country (Scotland) to escape all of this absurdity ………..in fact it would be absurd not to want to escape their (UK’s) Absurdistan State…..surely to God.

  5. Seems like they are very very confused, hmm. ‘Britain’ (I always have to amend as I type Britian!) ‘British’, ‘Great British’, far as I recall, just was not part of the rhetoric, BritNats’ message and brainwashing tactics back in 2014.
    Christ the slogans back then, they must have worked overtime day and night to come up with all the falsities plonked on the BBC and in their BritNat rags. Even my friends and family in England felt the need to comment, and pass judgement on Scotland and ‘that SNP’ for even thinking about escaping England’s clutches. ‘What’ll yus dee withoot the oil like’? LOL.

    Starmer hates Scotland, he despises the SNP and anyone associated with them, but will do everything and anything to keep Scotland shackled. However it looks like they are struggling with the pathetic ‘all it together’, we love you Scotland, ‘lead us don’t leave us’ lol…which no longer has traction given Labours’ disastrous actions and u-turns and lies.
    Labour’s rule Britannia nationalism is all about England, ‘Britian’= England, ‘UK’ = England.

    Well I am Scottish, not British, never was, never will be.
