Year after year Scottish Government builds between twice and 80% more affordable housing than Wales or England and six times more for social rent to tackle poverty

From Housing Statistics for Scotland Quarterly Update: New Housebuilding and Affordable Housing Supply to end June 2025 published today – Affordable [and social] housing delivery across the UK as a rate per 10,000 population 2007-08 to 2023-24 (years to end March): https://www.gov.scot/publications/quarterly-housing-statistics-september-2025/

Since the SNP came to power in 2007, Scotland has built affordable homes at around twice the rate in Labour-run Wales and at a 70-80% higher rate than in Conservative-run England.

Social rent is typically set at 50-60% of market rent while affordable rent can be as high as 80% of market rent, so the former is critical in tackling poverty. Over the last 18 years, the SNP Government has boosted social rent by around 30% over the previous Labour Government in Scotland and to more than 6 times greater than in England.
