In the Guardian today:

More than 150,000 UK graduates have student loan debts of £100,000-plus

‘Debt sentences’ rose by a third in six months, finds Royal London after FoI request to Student Loans Company. More than 150,000 people in the UK now have student loan debts of more than £100,000, with one borrower owing £298,000, data shows.

The company that obtained the figures says these “debt sentences” hanging over people are damaging graduates’ ability to save for the future and get on the property ladder.

The sharp increase in the number of people burdened with six-figure debts – apparently up by a third in six months – will send a chill down the spine of many students who have started university this autumn or are about to.

I suspect most of you know what is coming. From Grok AI:

The highest publicly reported individual student debt in Scotland is £50,000, accumulated by a medical student who studied in England (where Scottish residents pay tuition fees) and accrued significant interest over time. This figure comes from a 2024 BBC report on extreme UK-wide cases under the Student Loans Company (SLC) system, which administers all UK student loans, including those for Scottish-domiciled borrowers on Plan 4 loans.

While the UK’s absolute highest debt is £231,000 (from multiple English courses), Scotland’s free undergraduate tuition policy for residents studying in Scotland caps most debts far lower, with averages around £15,400–£17,000 upon entering repayment.

  1. Yep. Those students in England or Scottish ones who studied in England (more fool them imho)
will not be able to access credit or get a morgage for a long long time and of course I am sure I read that the EngGov, years ago sold some student debt, to er debt companies and the debt companies don’t play nice do they, to say the least. Some of those students will have bad credit all their lives, and they can’t even get into EU countries for jobs anymore, (unless they are rich then they probably can) wow.

Of course the BBC and pretendy lefty Guardian don’t want people to know that people in Scotland do not pay tuition fees because the SNP scrapped them. Wake up Scotland, tuition fees will be imposed onto students in Scotland should any English HQ’d partt(s) take control of Holyrood next year. Seeing pro independence folk, cough cough, saying oh I’m not voting for that SNP they have let us down we aren’t independent yet blah blah blah, well for those who beleive them, enjoy paying tons of £’s for any medications you need, higher council tax, roads tolls, huge water charges (that’ll be sold off, lock stock and every damn barrel) etc etc.
So vote for the parties HQ’d in England and enjoy sh*t in your water then, idiots.
