BBC Breakfast, for the second day has images of violence, damage and scared citizens, happening on ‘Britain’s streets’ and ‘across the UK’.

BBC Scotland staff are currently asking their pals to find them at least one ned.

Apologies for repetition but here’s the news where you are:

BBC UK is worrying about anti-social behaviour in England today. BBC Scotland have not followed their lead.

Perhaps this is why:

From Recorded Crime in Scotland, 2024-25 published in June 2025, we see massive reductions in all forms of anti-social behaviour, an overall halving and major reductions in every type.

In 2007, while classification differed then, the figure was around 94 000, TWICE that today.

What might be contributing to this?

There are more police officers per head in Scotland than in England and Wales. As of the most recent available data (31 March 2025), England and Wales have 241 full-time equivalent (FTE) police officers per 100,000 population. In Scotland, the rate was 295 per 100,000 as of mid-2024, though it had dipped below 300 for the first time amid declining officer numbers and population growth. Earlier 2023 figures confirm Scotland at approximately 300 per 100,000, compared to 242 in England and Wales. These rates are consistently higher in Scotland across recent years, with no evidence of reversal by September 2025.

Overall Crime Rate: In the year ending March 2024 (the most recent comparable period), Scotland recorded 55 crimes per 1,000 population, compared to 89.7 crimes per 1,000 in England and Wales. This marks Scotland’s lowest rate in over two decades and continues a downward trend from 93.4 per 1,000 in 2002/03.Long-Term Trends: Scotland’s crime rate has declined more sharply than England and Wales’ over the past 20 years, with official recorded crime falling by over 40% since its peak in the early 2000s. In contrast, England and Wales saw a rise to 93.6 per 1,000 in 2022/23—the highest since 2006/07.

  1. Yes but… the BBC have found the first UK drugs lab is in Ayrshire! So all those county lines drug cartels are from Ayrshire.

DCC Connors also force had a particular focus on dealing with “county lines” drug dealing in the north of Scotland.

This refers to organised crime groups from cities setting up drug-dealing operations in towns or rural areas.

The Courier is also reporting a “mass Brawl” in Dundee so as soon as Pacific Quay can get a reporter all the way to Dundee they will tell us all about it.
