In a report which quickly moves to to spend all of it’s time on the higher rate in deprived areas and, sickeningly, platforms Jackie Baillie of the UK Labour party ultimately responsible for the poverty that drives suicide rates there, to demand that more must be done in Scotland, BBC Scotland briefly tells us:

The number of probable suicides in Scotland has fallen by 11%. According to statistics released by the National Records of Scotland, external, the figure for in 2024 fell to the lowest level since 2017, with 704 recorded – 86 fewer than the previous year. But those in the most deprived areas….

The BBC report fails to tell us about the long term downward trend from 838 in 2007 to 704 in 2024, 15.9% down since the first SNP Government:

In England & Wales, which have long had a lower rate than Scotland, the gap has narrowed to almost the same level but, crucially has been climbing fast, since 2007, to, in 2023, the highest rate since 1999!
