Professor John Robertson OBA
BBC Scotland‘s Environment Correspondent, Kevin Keane has been reporting:
About 2.5 million more trees will be needed in Scotland’s towns and cities to create “tree equality”, according to the Woodland Trust.
He hasn’t provided any background on the overall situation with regard to tree planting in Scotland.
From Forest Research, Time Series in 2024:
In the period of SNP administration in Scotland, from 2008 to 2024, Scotland planted 131 460 new trees including 67 000 broadleaves.
England, with 10 times the population and nearly twice the landmass, only planted 40 720, less than a third.
As for Labour-run Wales – 7 800!

This may be true at face value but there is a racket going on with Scotland’s land (when hasn’t there been?) where huge swathes have been bought up by offshore companies to offset carbon footprint. Usually clarted with inappropriate tree species and just left to fend for themselves – witness Screw u dogs efforts in the Grampians of late.
