Thanks to Putin the SNP cannot oppose NATO membership but it can still reject US war policies such as those pursued by the monstrous Hilary Clinton

https://youtu.be/mlz3-OzcExI – Speaking between network interviews, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton jokes with reporter on early, unconfirmed reports that deposed Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi had been killed. A video of his last moments shows rebel fighters beating him and one of them sodomizing him with a bayonet before he was shot several times.

There are still some in the SNP, I feel sure, who opposed the changes in policy over NATO membership. Notably Ireland remains outside of NATO with only a limited relationship. Maybe it’s too late for us now but NATO membership does not mean we have to embrace all of US foreign policy and get close to its often belligerent presidents and ‘defence’ secretaries such as Hilary Clinton, Secretary of State (2009–2013, subject of, to me naive, treatment in Nicola Sturgeon’s recent book.

I have no doubt that Clinton is a war criminal with a track record worse than Trump, so far. If she’d been on the losing side, a Libyan, a Syrian, a Yemeni or a Somali, she’d be in jail.

What is that record?

A quick AI search gives you this:

Hillary Clinton, as U.S. Secretary of State (2009–2013), was involved in decisions related to U.S. foreign policy, including military interventions in Libya, Syria, and drone strikes in multiple countries. Critics, particularly from anti-war and progressive circles, argue her actions contributed to significant harm, pointing to:

Libya (2011): Clinton supported the NATO intervention that led to Muammar Gaddafi’s overthrow. The operation, authorized by UN Resolution 1973, aimed to protect civilians but resulted in prolonged instability, with critics claiming it violated international law by exceeding the UN mandate. Posts on X and some web sources, like antiwar.com, call her a war criminal for this, citing civilian deaths and Libya’s descent into chaos.

Drone Strikes: As Secretary of State, Clinton was part of an administration that expanded drone warfare in Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia. Leaked documents (e.g., The Drone Papers) suggest high civilian casualties, fueling accusations of war crimes for violating principles of distinction and proportionality under international humanitarian law.

Syria and Other Conflicts: Her advocacy for arming Syrian rebels and hawkish stance on Iran and Afghanistan are cited by detractors as contributing to regional destabilization.

Frankly, I just don’t get it.

  1. O/T – re monthly TUS donation

Good morning Prof! I tried to set this up today using the bank account details you gave in the comments under the “3,559 people” post. But my bank could not proceed with it because it could not get a match with your name on your account. I tried various lower/upper case combinations. Can you please post here the name of your account showing exact lower/upper case letters and spaces? Many thanks.

And very many thanks, as always, for your and the team’s excellent work.

      1. I had the same problem the other day, John, even with your name as shown above which my bank, having ‘checked’ first with your bank came back as not corresponding to the other account details I’d entered, so I eventually abandoned bank payment. I daresay they were just playing it safe on my behalf. I donated through crowdfunder instead. Not sure what the problem is/was.

  2. I think Scotland should copy Ireland and stay out of NATO. It is a war mongering organisation responsible for countless illegal deaths in Yugoslavia, Libya, Iraq and now Ukraine IMO. After the cold war ended there was no longer any justification for the military bloc and it should never have expanded east under the Bill Clinton and George Bush administrations.

Although Hillary Clinton gloated about the sordid death of Muammar Gaddafi, it was Obama who wrote the UN clause cleverly constructed to be open to misinterpretation and allow NATO to bomb Libya.

The Scottish public are not protected by NATO but instead turned into a target via Faslane. The radioactive water leaks are an added benefit.
