From Cancelled planned operations Month Ending 31 July 2025, published yesterday, the above graph and:
There were 25,644 operations planned to take place across NHSScotland. This is 9% higher (+2,108) than the number planned a year previously in July 2024 (23,536). Of all planned operations during July 2025 in NHSScotland, 776 (3%) were cancelled by the hospital for clinical reasons, 744 (2.9%) were cancelled by the patient, 570 (2.2%) were cancelled by the hospital due to capacity or non-clinical reasons, and 84 (0.3%) were cancelled for other reasons.
The main points:
- a 9% increase in demand
- a decrease in the tiny percentage of operations cancelled due to unpredictable factors such as staff illness or a surge in extreme emergencies having to be prioritised
- the this huge complex organisation can be so efficient, month after month, year after year, should be praised to the rooftops but will be either ignored or distorted.

No, no. Pigeons. Ferries. Blue tents. Lies, polis spies and porkie pies.

O/T The BBC News website has this headline today: ‘‘Swinney pauses new funding for arms firms supplying Israel’.
The BBC article makes NO MENTION of the motion and amendments regarding responses to Israel’s actions in Gaza that were debated in Holyrood. The BBC makes NO MENTION of the fact that all but two Labour MSPs and all Lib Dem on such important humanitarian matters opted to ABSTAIN in the final vote!
The original motion put by the Scottish Government stated: ‘That the Parliament agrees with the recognition of the State of Palestine and that peace in the region must be pursued by all.’
A Labour amendment was passed with SNP support but the amended original motion – further changed by the passing of a Greens’ amendment – was finally passed with the support of just TWO Labour MSPs.
