Professor John Robertson OBA

Headlining in the Herald today:

Inside the crisis facing Scotland’s fire service amid fears lives are at risk – A dire warning has been issued about the future of the fire service in Scotland, with looming cuts raising fears over public safety.

Not mentioned:

Fire deaths in Scotland have shown a significant downward trend since the early 2000s. Fatalities dropped from 53 in 2009-10 to 30 in 2021-22 for residential dwelling fires, a 29% reduction in dwelling fires overall.1

The number of operational fire staff (wholetime + RDS) in 2022 (6,290) compared to 2010 (7,248) shows a decrease of 7,248 – 6,290 = 958, 13.2%.

  1. The media’s excessive coverage on what they promote in Scotland as being….

    “a crisis

    “a fiasco

    “a Catastrophe

    Controversial

………….is very much disproportionate in relation to the reality of what the actual truth is…..but the media are not reporting upon truth….if they were…then no one of sound mind within Scotland would ever vote for many pro UK political parties in any elections both here in Scotland or indeed in UK GE’s……..

However as one pro UK individual once stated the UK media only support the UK State and so then they will only support those political parties who support it too ….as he said “That’s their job”

(He ,the person, actually said it in relation to the BBC but it actually also works for all UK media….including very much the one that employed him, as another one who was very much on the side of the UK propaganda merchants working to keep the UK State intact).

Now that as a reality within Scotland is the real crisis that exists for our politics in Scotland , it is also an absolute fiasco for Scotland, as a position , that most of the media holds, which is then , at times , a political catastrophe for non UK supporting political parties and also actually extremely controversial ,as a position, for any media to hold in any country, as those who are expected to both publish and report (truthful and actual impartial) political news within that country (in this case Scotland)….

As it is then, as a media position, one that is clearly not fair, nor honest nor truthful news that we get within Scotland via the UK media…..so then we can neither trust the news as reported supposedly “where we are” nor indeed believe it……

As clearly the news we get within Scotland is very much tainted by those within the UK media whose sole motivation in delivering the supposed ‘news where we are’ is then dependent upon, who they think they can protect politically…… and then also who they think they can reap the most damage upon politically (we all know which political party(s) falls into which category by the UK media)………

It is however what we have in the here and now (and also in the past too)….perhaps it is way beyond that time when some individuals who work within the UK media should finally experience a moral epiphany and so then have a ‘crisis of conscience’ ……….

Then they can finally communicate all of the injustices that the UK media have inflicted upon Scotland as a nation………I will not hold my breath….as it seems many who work within the UK media are careerists first and foremost which then prevents them doing the job for the right reasons….and so then writing the truth etc etc

It’s not as if we , within Scotland, have a media where any individuals seek to emulate the noble, as in the real journalism , that we saw with the likes of the American Journalists who exposed the Watergate scandal…..as in Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein….as sadly the ones playing at being Journalists here in Scotland are more Francie and Josie….in their pathetic (and Idiotic) patter that attempts , as in they pretend to be, #journalists that communicate real news as a #media…..but seeing their combined output it is obvious that they #Fail

Thanks to this site TUS (and others) we get to read facts and truth (as in that we have a corrupt and not fit for purpose media that exists within Scotland) and then we too also get to communicate it via our comments as well……we just need others who are still unenlightened (ignorant on it) to also know it too……………

  2. The opposition to changes to the Fire and Rescue service is often based on assertions with little or no evidence. In this case, it is ‘fires are dangerous and people have died from fires, ergo we must not change the system.’

We have a stretch of street in our area which has a firepath. It was put in about 50 years ago because of a problem of ‘rat-running’. A narrow, quiet, residential street was being used by drivers to avoid two main roads in the area. Sometimes the vehicles were large container lorries, which had to go at snail’s pace to be able to negotiate tight corners.

The location of the firepath was chosen because of its proximity to the local fire station. It was successful in stopping rat running and, happily, did not have to be used by any fire appliances. About 35 years ago the fire station was moved to a different location in the area and fire appliances had a different route into the area. Due to it not being used the section of road has become overgrown. A group of local people wanted the space to be re designated from a road to a green space, for children to play in. On checking with the local fire station none of the staff knew of the existence of the firepath! Scottish Fire and Rescue HQ informed us that it had been removed from the list of firepaths 35 years ago.

This cut no ice with the opponents – very few but very vocal. Their argument was that it had been designated as a firepath and must always remain so, even though the fire service do not use it. Their argument remained ‘fires are dangerous, people have died’.

  3. Aye, we can look forward to many more such Colin Brown et al Union features in the Herald before voting ends on 7th May 2026 https://archive.ph/Bgcr1 and perhaps a Broontervention or two..

There was an interesting SG Criminal Justice Committee Meeting on 4th September 2024 in which Colin participated, and even though many of the elements presented were similar to Gabriel McKay’s spiel, they were refreshingly shorter and more to the point – One of the fundamentals for the Unions had been lack of investment in infrastructure and kit, yet it was the mention of autoclaved concrete on fire station roofs which caught my attention, as you’d need to go back over 50 years to find that structural screwup, before SG was even a thing, and just guess who ruled the roost..

Even the infamous Sharon Dowey couldn’t resist squeezing a question over the “cladding crisis” which didn’t exist in Scotland, and to be fair to Mr Brown, he rather skillfully avoided the trap – It did however prove that mad cow disease persisted..

  4. They should just rename Scotland, Fiascoland. Of course we all know that colonisers talk down and and asset strip the countries they take over, and the BritNat state has it’s BritNat Bulldog teeth sunk into Scotland via their propaganda rags operating in Scotland. Grrrrrr.
I guess if (scary face emojji) the BritNat state succeeds in taking full control of Holyrood and the country of Scotland next year and for the foreseeable, they will just change Scotland’s back to North Britain anyway. The National museume of Scotland will be reverted back to being called the ‘royal museum’…can’t have these jumped up Scots thinking they have any claim to their own museums and such fancy things now can we.

Where do you live? Err. North Britain, in fact, north north England. No thanks!

  5. I hope we don’t see a repeat of somewhat mysterious fires in Scotland, too many imo, all about
2020-2022(?) I think. During the pandemic perfect time when no one was around though Mackintosh’s amazing Glasgow school of Art started before that and then was set fire to when being renovated never to be restored again(?).

The wonderful Crannog at Perthshire, Jenners iconic building in Edinburgh, the hugely internationally important astrological observatory in Galloway, all burnt down, some to a cinder. Oh and the ‘Elephant House’ cafe another massive tourist attraction…all gone. There was also a fire at remote recycling plant destroying it completely, can’t remember exactly where in Scotland though, also an old Polish church in Glasgow..it’s quite a long list, all from around the same time.
    No investigations? Hmm.

I don’t suppose the Herald blamed the English Labour administration at Holyrood for these fires either…back in 2006.
