I came to the question of independence with an open mind”

Question to ChatGPT: ‘Please summarise the public statements in the press and online made by the famous author JK Rowling in 2014 and in prior years concerning the campaign for and referendum on Scotland’s independence. Please include her first public comment on the matter.’

ChatGPT said: in part: ‘J.K. Rowling’s comments on Scotland’s independence were a topic of much attention, especially during the campaign leading up to the 2014 referendum. Here’s a summary of her key public statements made in 2014 and the years leading up to the referendum:

‘First Public Comment (2012): J.K. Rowling’s first significant public comment on the issue of Scottish independence came in 2012, when she expressed her view that Scotland should remain part of the United Kingdom. Her statement came after a period of increasing political debate about Scotland’s future.

‘In 2012, she stated her opposition to independence in an article for The Guardian titled “The benefits of staying together”.

‘Rowling expressed concerns about Scotland’s future outside the UK, particularly about the economic uncertainties of independence. She argued that while Scotland had a strong identity and sense of community, leaving the UK would risk the benefits of being part of a larger, economically stable entity.

‘She wrote, “I’m in favour of Scotland remaining part of the UK because I believe it would be better for Scotland to remain in the union… I would hate to see Scotland diminish its influence in the world by breaking away from the UK.”

As I recall, whatever claims Ms Rowling might make about the statements of Yes supporters, statements that influenced her decision, the ‘white heat’ of rhetoric had hardly been reached in 2012! And it seems by then Ms Rowling had already made up her mind!

  1. The general rule of thumb is, when you are in someone elses country you should watch your fcuking mouth when it comes to politics.

That Rowling woman is classic English imigrant, gobbing off on how her country should control the country she’s moved into.

The reason we are not independent is because we continue to tolerate these british vermin in our midst.

    1. Whooaaa! Maybe don’t tar all of English ‘imigrant’ with the same brush. Also ‘british vermin’…let’s keep it civil please, and also not confuse re ‘English’ and ‘british’. Many English people are pro independence, many Scottish people are anti. Let’s work at getting people who are new to Scotland, be informed and engaged in the debate etc!
I met a fabulous young woman from S Africa reecently when out on a walk, she is pro Scottish indy but possibly needs more info on the political sytame and parties so i gave her a ‘Believe in Scotland’ leaflet I have 100 of them to hand out, down to 99 now!

  2. JKR adopts the common position of many ( not all ) English migrants ( or Expats which is preferable to the pejorative Immigrant !) in that they know what is best for their ”adopted” country (but it will forever be a corner of England ! ) so they are never slow to make their views known .

Some of the most vociferous complainants about CalMac ”failings” are incomers to the Scottish Islands .

JKR has a closed mind to Independence for Scotland but will no doubt believe that she is open to persuasion .

  3. With a string of best selling novels under her belt, and film rights sold to Warner in 1999 for a reputed 1 million (and probably a profit share), Rowling was already filthy rich by the time rumblings of independence came around – In common with most (but not all) such rich individuals, there was no way she was going to support any form of separation from the corrupt London politics from which had hugely benefited, and which mafia to keep it that way ( see Ian Lang and what became GERS ).

Rowling has no capacity for an open mind on anything which may reduce her profits, she’s just another Trump type with a gender fixation instead of drill baby drill…
