Professor John Robertson OBA
You’ve all seen the claims about increasing hospital falls figures from a Freedom of Information request by Scottish Labour, in an attempt to provide Jackie Baillie with ammunition to attack the SNP, as in this from the Record:
Hospitals have been branded as “death traps for the frail” after over 250,000 falls were recorded. Nine out of fourteen health boards have seen an increase in fall as the SNP Government were urged to make the health service safer.
The full data above tell a different story.
After peaking in 2022, the total number in 2024 is significantly down, not mentioned in the media reports.
If you compare the 2024 figure with the 2022 figure, almost every region is down, not mentioned in the media reports.
The large Lothian and Ayrshire & Arran boards have major decreases, not mentioned in the media reports.
Orkney, Borders and Dumfries & Galloway are tiny, not mentioned in the media reports.
The largest board, Greater Glasgow and Clyde has a significant reduction from the peak in 2022, not mentioned in the media reports.

Pratfall for the colonial mejah–not mentioned in the report.

People should be reminded that when JB was in government Scottish hospitals were death traps due to hospital acquired infections, which were affecting 10% of patients when Labour left office. The rate has now been halved and Scotland’s rate is lower than that in England and lower than the OECD average.
But, what language to use for a Labour politician who would be expected to not throw workers under a bus to make a spurious political point. She is following in the footsteps of that other right-winger, Joani Reid.
Reid effectively accused thousands of Scottish care workers of either complicity in or covering up a pandemic of child sexual abuse such as that experienced in England’s care sector in recent years. Apparently we need an inquiry in Scotland because Reid can’t believe that services can be run better and with more concern for child safety in Scotland than has been the case in England under both Tory and Labour governments.

I had afriend worked at major hospital in Edinburgh, was constantly ill with C-diff or something like that, had to take lots time off…when Labour had private company doing the cleaning..or rather they were spreading germs around the wards!

The ‘Toni-da-Foni’ Organisation of Blair and associates has been co-opted to denigrate Scottish NHS all the way to 2026 elections. There was no mention of the fees charged for this service, but Tony does nothin-fur-nuthin ever, he of the 400,000 dead Iraqi civilians (UN figure, not Yookay gov ones of the Labour gov.)
