The very real and tragic costs that competent government by the SNP has quietly averted by its handling of health service pay and conditions settlements

The many strikes in NHS England in 2023, all averted by the Scottish Government, were at a real and tragic cost:

From the ONS in March 2023:

In total, at least 93,022 outpatient appointments, 18,716 elective procedures, 27,957 community service appointments and 9,634 mental health and learning disability (MHLD) appointments have been rescheduled because of strike action. These are reported figures and not all trusts submitted data, so they will be lower than the true figures.1

From LBC News in April 2023:

Deaths rose after first round of junior doctors strikes, new data shows, as 96-hour walkout enters final day – Excess deaths in England almost tripled in the two weeks during and after the first set of strikes by the British Medical Association (BMA) in March, Office for National Statistics (ONS) data shows. Junior doctors staged industrial action between March 13 and 15 for 72 hours, leading to the cancellation of around 175,000 appointments. Between March 11 and March 24, the number of excess deaths recorded in England were three times higher compared with two weeks prior, ONS data shows.2

Will any Scottish media give the Health Secretary credit?

  1. The London owned media pretending to be the voice of Scotland will still try and deflect and blame the SNP for anything anti NHS Scotland .

  2. In all the reporting by the MSM of the strikes affecting ”the country” I have yet to hear any reference to the pay negotiations in Scotland which , so far , have averted doctor’s strikes in our NHS .

I am sure that , had the situation been reversed , the MSM would have diverted their attention from Scottish Ferry stories to the woeful running of the Scottish NHS by the SNP !
