NHS Scotland treats 98% of urgent skin cancer cases within 31 days compared with only 82% in England but Herald platforms Sandesh Gulhane (Con) to misrepresent the data from a different report

Professor John Robertson OBA

From Cancer waiting times 1 January to 31 March 2025 published on 24 June 2025, the above table reveals target-busting performance by NHS Scotland in treating urgent cases of skin cancer (Melanoma). This performance is never reported by the MSM.1

For the same period, the figure for NHS England was only 81.56%.2

  1. A few short weeks ago I noticed a growth on my back. Brown and rough surface. Tried putting cream on it for a few days – no change.

Phoned the Medical Practice next day 8.30am. Explained situation to the Receptionist – possible melanoma. No same day appointments or routine appointments other than telephone appointments which we agreed would not be useful for my problem. Told to phone the next day when more slots would be opened up.

Fifteen minutes later my GP phoned me. Asked if I could get over to the surgery by 9.30 am and he would take a break from his telephone list to see me. At 9.40 am I was in his consulting room, masked of course. He examined the growth and thought it was a benign wart but would refer me to the hospital to see the Dermatologist. He also took a photo of the growth to send to the Dermatologist. Apparently they had been given a new app for their phones which allowed them to take such photos and send them directly to the Dermatologist.

The next morning I received a text message from the hospital giving a number for me to phone to arrange an appointment with Dermatology Clinic.

Phoned and got an appointment to go to Dermatology Clinic in 2 weeks time. Did so and Consultant checked me over and confirmed it was a benign wart. Offered to remove it if I wanted but decided not to.

    Start to finish 15 days.

  2. BBC Scotland big headline.

Police take no action over Alex Salmond complaint

    No mention of this one.

The UK ITV News covered the story of the Scottish Labour councillor convicted of child sex offences. STV News covered it as well. Why did Reporting Scotland employ a blackout of this story? There is no justification for not reporting this. It looks like political editorialising.
