From People requiring a social care assessment and care at home services published today, the above graph, and:
The estimated number of people assessed and waiting for a care at home package was 2,923 on 2 June 2025. This is a decrease of 6% from the estimated number of people waiting for a care at home package this time last year.
You’ll see from the graph that the level of those assessed but still waiting has been relatively static at around 3 000 for months now which enables comparison with the data for England. At the end of 2024, latest data, it was 44 000.
All things being equal, with ten times the population, you might have expected it to be around 30 000 but it was 14 000 more, nearly 50% higher.

People are living longer, so ore care at home is required and yet with limited Scottish funds due to EngGov holding the purse strings, and no doubt not enough staff in part due to England’s Brexit, it’s not going to get any better. Not ‘better together’. Should the English HQ’d parties take control of Holyrood, expect them to match what they are doing in England, except it will be much ‘worse’.
