Contrary to the recent media frenzy in Scotland, directed at John Swinney and the SNP, suggesting young people are scared to go out, the statistics reliably tell a different story, about Scotland, if not elsewhere in the UK.
From Knife crime statistics: FOI release published in October 2024 asking:
The number of knife crime offences [homicides], broken down by offence, age of suspect, and ethnic appearance of suspect, for each year for the last ten years (broken down by year), up to the most recent data.
The recent trends are clear:
- a four year falling trend from 40 cases in 2019/2020 to 37, 26 and 25 in following years;
- a three year falling trend among 16-24 year-olds, from 13 in 2020/2021 to 8 and 6 in the following years;
- zero cases among minors for the last three years after 1 case in each of the previous two;
- a reliable, statistically significant fall in the 5 year-average, from 35.8 five to ten years ago to 33.4 in the last five years.

The media’s lack of attention upon Scotland reducing knife crime here in Scotland compared to the “media frenzy” every year when the latest figures are revealed in relation to drug deaths is what one would call a ‘stark contrast’.
It seems to be that Scotland is never to be given any public credit or recognition for when any positive initiative has had a beneficial outcome, or is one that will either now or in the future improve some aspect of people’s lives within Scotland, as instead we only see and hear negative ‘news’ stories , that are blown way out of proportion, as those negative ‘news’ stories are given wide exposure and regurgitated on a loop by the media.
Scotland can never be seen in a positive light which then , for some people here, results in them having no pride, confidence or belief in their own country, which is the real reason why we see and hear a succession of #ScotladnIsSh*te stories in the media and also why some voters still vote for pro UK political parties.
Both the media and UK politicians only ever speak positively in relation to Scotland in the context of it being a part of the UK as opposed to it , as a individual nation , having achieved any success or progression independently through the Scottish government, that apparently is a big NO NO and so with that scenario it is then either ignored or it is challenged and condemned by the media (who , as a media, relay the opinions of those parties in opposition to the SNP as the Scottish government as if they were honest, credible, factual and non partisan observations).
Vote SNP via a majority in all future elections or keep allowing the media to talk down Scotland in them insisting (promoting) that we need their UK more than it needs us.
