Thousands at risk as Royal College reveals A&E waiting times in Labour-run NHS Wales more than THREE times longer than in NHS Scotland

‘The blatant hypocrisy of lecturing the Scottish FM’. Has hypocrisy become endemic within much of the political opposition in Holyrood?

In any event, it looks as if British Labour Party leaders in Scotland are STILL not being listened to by their comrades in government in Wales. The latter it seems STILL have not implemented the solutions to long waits in NHS A&E departments that the former have readily available, the solutions being shunned by the Scottish Government!

From the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) on May 22: ‘RCEM: Welsh government must prioritise dangerous ED waits in Wales – lives depend on it’.

The RCEM states: ‘Extreme waiting times in Welsh Emergency Departments (EDs) remain consistently high and are putting vulnerable patients at risk of significant harm.

‘That’s the response from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine as the latest performance data released today (22 May 2025) reveals almost one in every six people waited 12 hours or more in major EDs last month. That’s 15.2% of attendances – the same percentage when compared to March.’ (My emphasis)

A statement from the RCEM on May 6 concerning NHS Scotland noted that of major emergency department attendances in March ‘one in 23 waited 12 hours or more.’ That equates to 4.3%. That is a HUGE difference between waiting time performances in Scotland and Wales!

The official Public Health Scotland report on all A&E departments in Scotland records that in March 2025: ‘5,377 (3.9%) patients spent more than 12 hours in A&E (compared to 6,265 (5.3%) the previous month, and 6,762 (5.1%) monthly average for 2024).’

  1. But always the answers from unionists are “not relevant”, “two wrongs don’t make a right”.

Of course comparisons with Labour run countries in the UK are relevant because they are run by the government that unionists wish upon us. They should therefore be streets ahead of our own and quoted as an example, not something we must adopt because they say so.
