As the Herald attempts to lay the blame for Glasgow’s recent rough-sleeping problem at the door of John Swinney and the SNP, the actual national achievements they never tell you of

1 Core Homelessness lowest in Scotland

‘Core homelessness’ – a concept which captures the most severe and immediate forms of homelessness – Rates of core homelessness were in the last comparable study (2019) substantially lower in Scotland (0.57% of households) than in England (0.94%) and Wales (0.66%).

https://www.crisis.org.uk/ending-homelessness/homelessness-knowledge-hub/homelessness-monitor/scotland/the-homelessness-monitor-scotland-2021/

2 Homelessness applications were almost twice as high under Labour/Lib Dems in 2006

Child homelessness in Scotland hits new record high. In total, there were 29,652 open homelessness cases in March 2023, which was a 15% rise on last year.

There were around 58 000 cases in 2006, the last year of the Labour Government in Scotland. https://www.gov.scot/publications/high-level-summary-statistics-key-trends-scotland-2006/pages/12/

3 Child homelessness is 30% higher in England

From BBC UK July 2023:

The number of people living in temporary accommodation in England has hit a 25-year high, according to the latest official figures. Almost 105,000 households were in temporary accommodation, including more than 131,000 children, on 31 March this year.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66296333

From the Scottish Government in September 2022:

The latest statistics show that on 30th September 2022 there were 9,130 children in Scotland living in TA.

All things being equal (they’re not), England with 10 times the population might be expected to have 10 times the number of homeless children, 91 300, but has 131 000 or 30.3% more.

While the Scottish figures are, of course, unacceptable and further evidence that we must stick with the socialist policies of the SNP and its new FM as opposed to the brutal conservatism of the Labour Party under Starmar/Sarwar, it remains in the public interest to be aware that homelessness for children in England under the Cons is 30% higher than under the SNP in Scotland

4 Homeless in under Tories or Labour expected to surge to twice that under SNP

In the Guardian July 2023:

Michael Gove’s department is handing back £1.9bn to the Treasury originally meant to tackle England’s housing crisis after struggling to find projects to spend it on….Analysis by the consultancy Lichfields has found new housebuilding is expected to drop to its lowest level in decades, while 580,000 extra people are likely to find themselves homeless, “sofa surfing” in the homes of friends or family. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/jul/12/gove-department-hands-back-19bn-meant-tackle-england-housing-crisis

According to BBC Scotland, on 31 January 2023, there are 28 944 homeless in Scotland, ‘the highest level on record‘ : https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-64464412

Based on this, all things being equal (funny I know), with 10 times the population, England might be expected to have around 290 000 homeless but is predicted to have double that.

To avoid being accused of hyperbole, I’ve ignored the fact that the 580 000 projection is ‘extra.’

5 Rough sleeping less common in Scotland

research by Crisis, reported in a Welsh newspaper(!):

The proportion of people suffering from the worst forms of homelessness in Scotland is about half as high as in England, campaigners have claimed.

Almost one in 100 households in England (0.94%) were experiencing what the charity Crisis called “forms of core homelessness” – such as sleeping on the streets, sofa surfing, or staying in either unsuitable temporary accommodation like B&Bs or living in garages or industrial premises

That rate compares to 0.66% of households in Wales and 0.57% in Scotland, Crisis said.

The charity put this down in part to Scottish ministers having the “right political will” to tackle the problem. https://www.denbighshirefreepress.co.uk/news/national/19611471.homeless-rate-scotland-half-england-says-crisis/

  1. Normal language fails to describe what IS shamelessly happening in the so-called UK.
Normal people – the voting public – seem to be invisible to many Politicians…
Populations in England and Scotland are free to vote based on Political propositions, etc. Winning votes? Well, when a politician ‘wins’, what do voters get from any politician’s success, we wonder?

    1. Sounds a bit cryptic.

Basically in Scotland, if people vote for the actual Scottish parties and not the parties operating in Scotland with their HQ’s in England, they are much more likley to ‘get’ what they voted for. take a look at the SNP Scottish governments’ website and you will see some of the ‘success’ of the success of the SNP and Scottish Greens(ish) in winning votes.

‘We’ in Scotland don’t want ‘politicians’ in control of our parliament/government who simply use the ‘voters’ as a means to secure their own ‘success’. Not that the ‘voting public’ are invisible to them, rather the ‘Normal people’ are to be conned, scammed and used for whatever agenda the British Nationalists have at any one time, whether it’s low paid jobs, high unemployment so high debt, cannon fodder, and of course in Scotland, vast resources to be taken by the country next door. Not to mention the nickel being prospected for in the Scottish Highlands and other sought after minerals, for tech, industry and space exploration etc etc. Shhh…

Meanwhile the ‘success’ of the SNP needs to continue or Scotland will be taken back decades, think England is bad re services, their NHS etc, well think ten times ‘worse’ should any BritNat London HQ’d party take control of Holyrood next year, that does not bear thinking about. :-/

  2. “Facts are stubborn things” and the media in Scotland are those who will always be resistant to promoting actual facts .

As they are very much, as a media, those who are stubborn to real change and progress for Scotland and so they prefer to not promote real facts especially when they are confronted with any actual facts that may result in kudos for the SNP.

So they prefer, as a media, to not rely upon actual facts but instead they prefer to rely upon their own own versions of their alternate facts , aka fictional lies only promoted, published ad broadcast to harm the SNP , while also they hope, benefiting other political parties.

Vote SNP in 2026 and encourage others to also do the same , in you communicating to those others all of the facts that you know that are connected to the SNP , that then, as facts, prove just how much the media are omitting and also lying about, especially whenever they as a media communicate anything about the SNP , which they only do that as a media, in order to get their preferred pro UK party elected in Scotland and also to get them elected elsewhere within the UK as well.

  3. When it comes to Scotland/SNP , the UK media like to broadcast what Trump and his ilk call ”Alternative Truth ”.

To those of us with more than one brain cell that translates as lies !

To their everlasting shame , the Labour/Tory/Libdem Scottish (?) branches also indulge in this reprehensible outright lying to attack the Scottish Government .

    1. Yep and the stakes are very high, the Brit state wants rid of the SNP and they will do anything they can to achieve that be in no doubt at all.

Share TUS, and share SNP policy info etc…think up some very clever slogans/soundbites etc and send to SNP. They need some better advice than they get from the BritNat states’ civil servants who are installed in the Scottish parliament and at the English Govs’ newly built fancy big offices that they plonked right in the centre of Edinburgh. Must have cost a few quid that building..hmm.
